  • It’s a shame your new employer won’t cover the exams, it would be a shame to not sit them though so couldn’t you use your first months increase to cover it? Or perhaps some of your EF?  It’s an investment in yourself and your future so you should definitely still do it x

I am hoping to have a discussion with them about it all when I receive my induction as I believe they like to find out what employee goals are and how the company can best help achieve them. They are also an ACCA approved employer so I do think that once my probationary period is out of the way they will provide me with study support :) Yes I would like to still sit my December exam so if it mean whacking it on a CC if no floating money is available, I will replace with my next pay. x

  • Morning,

£1.95 PAD made to my CC1 pot :) Have had to purchase some stable boots for Arwen as over the last 24 hours, both her back legs have filled with fluid and have heat to them :( This will be because she is on box rest with very little chance to move about and get the blood flowing so its a concern as this only adds to her discomfort. Decided to start getting up at 5.15am instead of 5.30am to give her an extra 5-10 minutes of in hand walking in the school ontop her of recommended daily walk time just to encourage the swelling to subside. Luckily the heat has gone but there still remains an amount of swelling. Hoping with the increased walking time (will stop if she becomes uncomfortable), her legs will sort themselves out. A pair of stable boots will also aid the swelling and will put my mind at ease. Poor girly :( She is having her bandage changed by the vet at some point today so hopefully that goes ok. Will ring her up and speak to her about the swelling too!

Busy day at work with having to start reporting for the last period so that's good. Meal was lovely last night although we all ate far too much and felt very sorry for ourselves for the rest of the evening. Still feel off even now so I won't be surprised if I decide to just stick to coffee instead of eating breakfast. Brough leftover stew for lunch so will see how I feel then :)

  • I hope the additional walking time works to try and ease her pain, it's always a worry when our beloved animals are in distress or discomfort.

Glad the meal was nice, although not great that you're feeling off from over eating, fingers crossed you'll manage the stew at lunchtime and feel back to normal.

You have started the month well with the PADs that balance will really start to come down fast. I would agree with the posters who said to book the exam, if you pass the new company may even refund it when you are out of probation, worth asking them when you start, even if they say no it will reinforce that you are serious about qualifying.
You could try picking Arwen some dandelions and wilted nettles there should still be enough around, they will help with the filled legs. We also gave Cleaver and marigold mix which came from herbal places and are not expensive, but run it past the vet first just in case it would stop the effectiveness of the drugs.

  • Oh dear, it's uncomfortable isn't it when you overeat. I did that last week when we went to visit a friend & they did some (a lot of) pizza! Hopefully it passed quickly for you.

Great PAD's again. I've been doing something similar, but have been rounding down my accounts & transferring them into a savings pot. When I get to the end of the month I'll decide where to divert that pot.

Good luck, hope your week goes well.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that Arwen's got leg swelling and hopefully some of the remedies suggested and the extra walk will do her some good. What did the vet say today when they changed the bandages? Is that part on track for healing? Fingers crossed the swelling go down soon and she can start to recover more so.

You're doing so well with the PADs, I'm really impressed with how you have handled everything with getting a new job and making your life easier with the balance transfers etc. Shame about the overeating, but I've done that so many times and clearly don't learn my lesson as I keep repeating it! 😂

  • Morning,

I do believe that the extra 5-10 minutes of walking her around the arena a day is helping @LittleMissDetermined as every time I go up to tend to her, they seem a little less swollen than before. They are still filled with fluid, but not half as much as what they were two days ago so its definitely helping. Her boots are due to arrive in the next 48 hours so they will further aid her :)

Many thanks @SusieT! I do wish I could PAD a bit more in terms of value, but things are quite tight and will continue to be until I receive my first pay from my new job at the back end of November so I shall plod along with my little £1's here and there until then :D Yes I do think I will go ahead and book as soon as my results come out for my Sept exam on the 17th... eek! Hoping I have passed as I don't think my eyeballs can study/revise that blasted module again! I shall definitely go and have a look about for some dandelions as I didn't know they could have such an effect!

Sounds like a great PADding plan @no1disneymum :) I think that is the best part about keeping it all into a savings pot until payday eve. You get to see the lump sum as a whole before you throw it at the debt! I am still deliberating between sending it straight to my CC or keeping it in a pot... It's less labour intensive for me to keep as one all together as it means I dont have to update my signature everyday!

Hi @keedie, I am still waiting for a call back from the vets regarding both her legs and how the change of dressing went. She must have forgotten with being so busy! I left her a message so hopefully she will get back to me this morning :) Thank you very much for your compliment regarding me juggling! I seem to have been blessed with the skill to juggle a lot rather well and juggle next to nothing not so well! Clearly this has also waddled into my career too hence my moving! I prefer to be kept constantly busy as I seem to shut down and become a bit of a mess when I am left with ample free time!

PAD today for £1.55 which has gone into the CC1 pot. Have been looking a lot into pensions and mortgage overpayments the last week and toying with a few calculators. With my new wage I will have more funds after bills to play with so I want to make the most out of it but wisely! At the moment I am paying 5% to my pension but with my salary increase after a lot of playing around with figures I think I am going to request to bump this up to 7%. This will only reduce my take home pay by about £36 overall so not too bad and more in the pot for funds to grow in the future. For some reason I thought that I wouldn't be able to afford paying more into a pension plus overpaying on the mortgage (literally no idea where I got that from), but after having a good go on the moneysavingexpert overpayment calculator I haver found that by paying just £50 extra on top of my monthly instalments it will save me £13,620 and shave 6 years off the borrowing length! So this is my plan for once I start my new position :) Needed to write it down somewhere!

  • Adjusting your pension contributions when you get a salary increase is a wise decision as you'll not have a comparable pre-adjustment rate so you won't miss it. My pension and mortgage are going to be my focus once CC7 is cleared.

I may need to investigate the MSE mortgage overpayment calculator, we are allowed to overpay ours by £15k a year with no penalties so would like to start hammering this after my DFD has finally arrived.

Glad the walking is working for Arwen and the boots will be here soon

These are my thoughts exactly @litt@LittleMissDetermined :) Seeming as after tax I will be receiving a decent whack more than what I get currently, I may as well make the most of this and divert some to the pension. My aim is to eventually by contributing around 10% but this is a fair way off yet. Need one more salary increase after becoming qualified and then this should be achievable with what has been suggested.

I would strongly recommend having a play about on that calculator as its truly mind blowing how much interest you could save just by paying in a relatively small amount on top of normal payments each month!

Keep playing about with this CC1 balance and how long it will take me to clear :( It sucks knowing that over the next 2 months, I will only be able to throw around £320 at it. It is as if the balance is a brick wall and nothing can knock it down. Really hoping again that once Xmas is out of the way, I can start throwing a few hundred extra towards it.
