Moving house - energy supplier

Currently living with a mate pending completion of my purchase. I don't have an energy supplier currently. What I'm wondering is what happens when I move, last time I just got a fixed tariff to kick in on completion day. Obviously not an option now. Do I inherit their suppliers on a crazy rolling rate?
