Moving house - energy supplier
Currently living with a mate pending completion of my purchase. I don't have an energy supplier currently.
What I'm wondering is what happens when I move, last time I just got a fixed tariff to kick in on completion day. Obviously not an option now.
Do I inherit their suppliers on a crazy rolling rate?

You inherit the current supplier on the standard variable rate.
Just remember to take a picture of the meter reading the day you move in👍0 -
To add to the above, you'll need to specifically contact the current supplier to set up an account and give them the opening meter readings. They will probably try to get you to sign up the a fixed term tariff but the standard variable rate tariff set by the price cap is the default option if you do not agree to a fix. What may be best right now will depend on the specific fix details, and still won't be clear-cut I'm afraid.0

The Daily Mail suggests that contracts can be moved between homes:

However, it then contradicts itself by suggesting that some supplier contracts are regional when, in truth, ALL supplier contracts are regional. All suppliers will make adjustments when moving home for DNO differences etc.0 -

Just go on their SVR tariff unless a fix is offered that is close the the SVR and the SC is the same as that for the SVR and there are no high cancellation charges, like £150 for each utility.Someone please tell me what money is0

Thanks all, suppose that's another question to ask who is the current supplier. Planning to go measure up for materials once we've exchanged so I'll remember to ask then0

You could always ask them to leave a note of the final meter readings they have given to their energy company, also water meter. Get pics of all meter readings on moving in day.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

The energy supplier will be named on one of the forms the seller has filled in and your lawyer should have given it to you as part of the process. Watch out for crazy estimates of use from the supplier, the average consumption can be cut right back if you are frugal, which determines the amount of direct debit you will be paying (variable direct debit if available solves this). Good luck with the move.0
