Chase are using their UK bank to build a bank on current technology, thus automating as many of the processes as possible, including ID verification.

Certainly not horrendous service or discrimination. It's just that the ID you have isn't verifiable

To be fair plenty of banks and building societies will use electronic verification only for account opening. The thing is it's up to them how they interpret the KYC regulations, with some going Chase's stricter route.
