I watched Martin Lewis on TV earlier and decided to open a current and savings account as a result
What HORRENDOUS SERVICE FROM CHASE BANK!!
I wanted a current account and a linked savings account only it seems I am not good enough! I'm a house owner lived at my current address since the mid 1990's (mortgage free) I have a number of other bank accounts and have a Experian credit rating of 999, the maximum score but being disabled I cannot travel abroad for health reasons so I do not have a current passport, I also have an old fashioned paper driving licence, not a plastic photo driving licence (I'm a pensioner and don't see the point in changing to a licence that has to be renewed REGULARLY especially as in the near future my DL will need to be renewed for age related reasons and getting ANY driving licence in the UK currently is subject to lengthy delays (My brother's DL renewal took in excess of 8 month recently) The Chase banking group have decided unless you have either a
A passport OR
A UK driving licence OR
An EU national ID card photo ID
they don't want to know you! I don't want to borrow money, have an overdraft or any other risky transaction, I simply want a current account with a debit card and a savings account, however not having a passport or photo driving licence as ID means they don't want me or others like me as customers. (I wonder how many other disabled people are being discriminated by this bank in the same way?)

The Chase UK ID requirements were extensively discussed a couple of months ago: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6346094/photo-id-only-for-new-chase-1-5-bank-account-and-other-things/p1

There's no discrimination. Their business. their terms of trade. Other banks are available. Choice is yours.
It is discrimination, but perfectly legal, and it's not horrendous service either, merely more restrictive criteria for proving identity, unless Rebel was spoken to poorly by a customer service representative.

In this day and age, the choice to not possess photo ID and complain about the resulting difficulties, is exactly that: a choice.

I am sorry perhaps I should have said but I did offer a photo identification issued by the UK government in the form of a DISABLED PERSONS BLUE BADGE. As I am sure many people here are aware the blue badge is not something that is readily available and could easily be considered an official form of ID. I have made an official complaint to Chase and may take this further I haven't yet decided. To be honest I should have done a search on MSE to see if anyone else had experienced a similar problem but I was a little annoyed at the point of posting, for that I apologise. As for the question is this discrimination until it is reviewed by an official body like the disability discrimination board and a decision made by them it is simply open to personal interpretation if they decide it is discrimination then it it is not relevant what Chase wish they will have to conform to the UK legislation to do business in the UK, equally if they decide it is not discrimination then like many others I will have no choice but to accept their terms of business.

Chase use services which can verify the official identification, a blue badge is not verifiable in that way through those services. Digidentity and the PostOffice are two of the government approved identity verification services and neither support a Blue Badge as identification.

I do believe it has been tested (with other financial services) and found to not be illegal discrimination. Not sure what disability you are saying it is discriminating against, no disability I can think of makes you not able to apply for a passport for example, even though you may not use it for travel.

Update your driving license and you won't be stopping yourself from being able to open an account.

I own both a driving licence (provisional) and a passport, and I renew both to ensure their validity, not because I plan to drive anywhere or travel abroad. By choice, you do not own either.

Please do take this further if you feel so strongly about this, so you feel resolved either way.

Blue badges aren't issued by the UK Government. They are issued by local councils in England, Scotland and Wales, and by the Northern Ireland Department for Infrastructure. Unlike passports and driving licences, there is no UK-wide database against which anyone can check a blue badge.

    Definitely not HORRENDOUS SERVICE.

Blue badges are also easily forged with no central database to check them against.

Chase is an App only bank. There are lots of people that don't like App's - they can't join either. That's their choice as well.

Chase App doesn't work on older phones. If some people don't want to buy a newer phone. That's their choice as well.

    None of that is discriminatory.

The bank have outlined what they offer, and how you can join them - if you don't want to tick the boxes by having the photo ID - there are other banks out there to choose from.

Not again, it life get on with it.
    It’s the banks rules.
My wife wants access to her tax records and pension forecast etc, a chase account
    and a few other things.
But no License and no passport mean tough luck, it’s not going to happen.
Also they won’t take her blue badge or freedom pass.
Like loans and credit cards, you applied for and you either got it or you didn’t.
    Why only god knows.
I wanted to marry Christie Brinkley.
    No luck with that either.
