Looking at the Travel2be website, it appears that they offer different levels of protection depending on what you need and how much you are willing to pay.
On a flight to NY for example (I chose this as it's what the OP booked), on top of the basic ticket price you can pay:

£44 for "basic" cover (unable to travel for medical reasons only and you get 75% of the ticket price refunded),

£47 for "enhanced" cover (100% refund for cancellation if the reason is one of their covered scenarios) or,

£140 for "plus" cover. (75% refund for cancellation for any reason).

We need for the OP to let us know which of the 3 options above that they opted for. If it was the most expensive then as the website doesn't list any exclusions for this, they should be entitled to a 75% refund of their fare.

Enhanced cover I paid for. I did not even see any option for Plus cover when I booked as I would have definitely chose this had I seen it or been offered it... :(
  • Thank you all for the feedback on this. I was expecting to have to cut my losses and put it down to my own failure to research in more detail.

Over 15k poor reviews though does tell a story though...

I just tried this myself to see what is now offered and saw the below page...

This did not even exist when I booked these flights...

It appears to have been conveniently all changed since I booked.
  • Extra nearly £200 pp to get refunded. Ensuring they pretty much don't lose much at all then... 🙄😂

How would that compare to just booking a flexible ticket in the first place?

I imagine that's what the agent does, so it's the price of doing that plus a premium on top for them doing it for you.  The size of the premium is of course dependent on what they think people might pay.

I note they call it "enhanced" at the top and "extended" in the table, which is not a good start.
  • There has to be a reason for your ESTA to be rejected, either a conviction notified to the US or a non eligible nationality. These are quite clear on the ESTA site, having renewed mine just recently!

I doubt that any cover of Travel Insurance would cover this, as sites I sue to book trips to the US do clearly say that! Travelbe iclude the following

    5.8 Migration and health requirements

Each country has the power to establish its own entry requirements and to establish health requirements for nationals from other countries. Please note that such requirements usually vary according to the passenger’s nationality.

The rules on passports and visas may change and so you must consult the relevant embassy long before your visit.

It is the User’s exclusive responsibility to obtain the necessary documentation to make the trip, including passport, visas and health documents. Any loss due to lack of that documentation shall be to the User’s account and in particular, the costs of interrupting the trip and any repatriation.

We recommend, therefore, that you always check the different formalities for the chosen destination and transit countries and the time required to complete all the related steps.
