    Interesting statement for Octopus Energy
They've been saying that for months now. If you phone them (or email hello@octopus.energy perhaps?) they'll make sure you understand what you're getting into and then, if you're happy, sign you up.

Clicking the link to say yes you understand and still want a quote takes you to a page saying:

"With global energy prices at record highs, you're unlikely to be better off by switching at this time.

If you think that's incorrect and would like a personalised quote, please call and speak to one of our experts on 08081693274 with your current energy prices to hand. Our lines are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am - 4pm on Friday."

    So no online offerings anyway.

Yep didn't get round to adding the 2nd image, just thought I'd give it a go but didn't expect anything different.

    Nice and honest though.

Some of us *are* paying less for our gas.
People who want a tariff that tracks the wholesale price up and down can join Octopus and choose their Tracker tariffs. Most
I've posted on MSE several times that Octopus are doing pretty well out of today's capped tariffs - and dismally failed to make an impact!
You got me interested so I looked up tomorrow's wholesale electricity unit price - and it is noticeably lower than the current capped unit rate.
This leads me to think "If they can turn a profit on the price you pay why are they complaining about the effect of capped rates?
No swings and slides, please.  Nobody has a good record on predictions - least of all, OFGEM.
[Since the current cap came in wholesale prices have been pretty flat.]

    Except the tracker?

Oh I meant through the getting a quote route.  Although one has to actively search for the Tracker (via Google, I can't find it via Octopus' mobile website and there doesn't appear to be a search option) and that requires knowing it exists - which until just over half an hour ago, I didn't, even as a current customer.

[The only options for me via 'change my tariff' are two relatively expensive fixes - and my apologies if I've already mentioned that on this thread, I can't keep up with which threads are what at the moment!]

Oh and I've just seen they are offering their smart tariffs on the home page so I was wrong about no online offerings, for people with smart meters anyway.

https://octopus.energy/tariffs/ Put Postcode in, do not click get quote, when tariffs loads, use filter buttons e.g domestic/flexible to see variable rate tariffs

To change to tracker tariff need to be an existing customer,  send email or contact via social media, possible by phone

Am I just being daft?  There doesn't appear to be any way to choose any of the tariffs that come up online - again, would have to phone or e-mail.

We have massive amounts of oil and gas reserves here but local councils will not allow drilling/extraction.
Ironically its these deluded individuals bleating and banging their drums, who are forcing the shortfall in Gas to now be imported from the U.S or Qatar in the form of LNG. Marine cargo and tanker traffic has never been so high, with all of the extra traffic transporting Gas, Oh and Electric Car Batteries around the world........

LNG of course requires huge amounts of Electricity to convert from Gas to Liquid at one side and then more energy to convert it back from Liquid to Gas at our side. Not to mention being transported in ancient diesel tankers with engines in rows the length of a football field all burning a sulphur laden diesel sludge oil - no DPF's or pollution controls on the smoke stacks of these vessels!.

Their 'philosophy' of saving the world is actually creating a bigger carbon footprint than just producing it ourselves - they may see themselves as some kind of hero's, when in fact they are just clueless amateurs creating a bigger problem. The sooner they are put into homes for the terminally bewildered the better.

Its time, we stopped allowing these individuals, and obnoxious gobby teenagers from Sweden to dictate our energy policies.
