So Sky have finally gone for roaming charges and that's about the lot.

However – I cannot find anywhere, in forums or in google searches, WHY mobile companies have to charge. Bottom line, can anyone tell me if they are passing on genuine charges that they now incur post-Brexit or just profiteering?

Thanks
Martin

I think Brexit is being used as the reason but no idea if that's the real reason. O2 are the only one of the main networks still not charging but who knows how long that will last. Three said PAYG was still charge free but when I called up to ask I was told it was coming end of this month.

Is it just European roaming you need? As plenty of the smaller / MNVO carriers not charging.

Now we're no longer n the EU their roaming agreement no longer applies to UK networks.

The companies in the EU can now charge UK networks whatever they like to allow their customers to roam on their network.
That's not to say that the UK companies aren't topping up a little, but the days of the EU imposing free roaming are now gone.

They're just profiteering. Mobile use isn't generally more expensive in the developed world. Just like banks with foreign usage charges on credit and debit cards.
Like with bank cards, there are a minority which don't charge for foreign usage, give them your custom.
