Compensation question

Morning All,
Was meant to fly to Italy on Friday but due to a general strike in Italy the flight was delayed by 24hrs. As we were only going for 2 nights this meant it wasn't really worth going so we decided the best option was to try and cancel and re book for another time.
Due to the late notice of the delay and the early departure time we'd already checked into a hotel prior to travel, also, we didn't manage to get through to Jet2 until 11am the next day and then got confirmation that the holiday would be cancelled and we'd receive a refund. All good.
My question is, am i still entitled to any compensation for the delay and other expenses I have incurred (hotel, travel, food, travel insurance, etc)? The delay wasn't the fault of Jet2 but I was just wondering If i'd be able to claim anything or not?
Thanks

I assume this was not booked as a package holiday? If that is correct, your only claim can be against your insurance policy, not the airline0

If Jet2 cancelled, then you will get a refund of the total cost of the package, but not your UK expenses, insurers do not normally refund as they have been at risk of you cancelling due to illness since the date you took out the cover1
