Moving from Sky to NOW Tv

We have recently moved from Virgin broadband and landline at £69 a month to NOW at £23 per month so next thing to move is Sky tv with Sky Sports which they are now charging £78 (I know!)

I was thinking of moving to NOW (as really pleased with NOW broadband and service)  We could have the entertainment package £9.99 and Sky Sports which are on offer at £20.99 per month at present.

However OH not happy as he sometimes likes watching Sky Sports on red button and recording afternoon matches to watch later.  Has anyone who has NOW any views if this is possible or not?  We have a Samsung smart tv which is about five years old.

Alternatively I will have to bite the bullet and give notice with Sky and hope they offer something better before footie starts again!

NOW is a streaming service ,so not possible to record for later watching.
  • Does anyone know if it is possible to use the old fashioned recorder to record Now tv programmes?  Bit of a faff but if it is an option might be worth trying.  I’m guessing the answer will be no unfortunately.  I have bought a Freeview recorder while cancelling Sky but admit Sky is an easier use with more programmes.

You guess correctly, the answer is no.

OK unfortunately as I thought.  It looks as though I'll be cancelling Sky for the summer and hoping I get offered a better deal. (Can't be much worse than current one of £78 for Sky HD Entertainment plus Sky Sports - my own fault I know for taking my off the ball during lockdown and not doing it sooner).

As a follow up what does anyone think would be a reasonable amount to accept (if I am offered anything) seeing as it'll have to be on a contract for a certain time?

I've got Signature plus Sports in HD for £38pm after this year's price rise -so less than £40pm is certainly achievable.

NOW have bonus sports streams (there were about 6 for the F1 recently as well as extra football matches etc) some sports events are also available on catch-up. The Entertainment package also has catch-up with 100s of programmes available and all the movies from the Movie package are available. There are often offers so you should never need to pay £9.99 each for movies and entertainment
See this thread for what people are being offered

Many thanks for that.  If it were just me I would be perfectly happy with the NOW Entertainment package but the sticking point is the Sports Package as OH wants to be able to watch alternatives on the red button and sometimes record sport to watch later in the evening.  So as the account is in my name and I pay the direct debit I am gearing up to cancel and see what Sky offer as anything less than the £78 at present would be helpful!

I think the "bonus" streams on NOW are the equivalent of the Red button ones on SKY (there isn't a physical Red button on many of the remotes on compatible devices that get NOW). But there isn't a record function - I suppose it comes down to how much someone wants to pay to be able to record sport.
