I always put two payment prices, one for normal first class and another for recorded delivery.. then it is up to the buyer to choose.. I also put a message in the lisiting saying if buyer does not pay for recorded and the item is lost in post, I will not be held responsible.. Seems to have worked so far..

  • If they pay via paypal, you will have no choice but to refund unless you can prove (RD or SD) that they recieved the item, no matter what you write in your listing. You cant over-ride ebay/paypal rules just by writing something in the listing im afraid
So how exactly can you prove that someone has received the item if sent by standard mail...?

    Or is that the point...

I have had to sell a few items on ebay for help with the bills. I always weigh the items and check royal mail site to get an idea on the costs.
I always post recorded delivery or parcels as the items have to be signed for.
I think ebay & paypal state proof of posting is not proof of delivery so any buyer can pretend not to have got the items and claim a refund, you cannot prove they were not.
extra 70p i think over standard postage

That's the point. 'I will not be held responsible' counts for nothing in a paypal dispute.

Tracking is for your protection, not the buyers.

Arguably recorded delivery is pointless, as a) it's not tracked until delivery - no more secure than standard mail b) a lorra lorra recorded items seem to mysteriously vanish in transit, and c) you're covered for loss for £34 with standard mail, you don't need to pay the extra. Whether you consider the signature worth the money depends on what you think about a and b :)

I always send items by recorded devivery its only 70p extra

I only give the option of first or second class recorded

I have never had an Item go missing yet

or had to do any refunds either

The buyer pays for my protection

I make it clear in my listings that that is how I post

and if they don't like it they don't bid
    Living the Dream...............:A

    Every little helps
