Easyjet onboard luggage query

Hi, we're flying Edinburgh to Nice  next week.  Normally take hand luggage/overhead storage but they've now changed size to only 45cmx30x20 (ie the size of a small backpack) & needs to fit under seat in front.
It's doable, just need to wash stuff when there, however I've got a soft holdall which I'd prefer over a backpack, but it's 50cm length.  I'm concerned they may have the luggage police at airports now.  Has anyone had any bother this year over the minutiae of luggage?

if the soft holdall can squash down to the required size (eg if a sizer) there is unlikely to be issue.
have you looked at the cost of up-front seating? this would give you the larger overhead cabin bag in addition to the under seat one

Unfortunately the base is a rigid structure. All seating now booked, likewise "upgrading" my 10cms extra hand luggage to overhead locker also fully booked.  I'm reading that people are furious but what can you do, I guess they have to find a way of clawing back the money they lost in the pandemic but it's really annoying to take so little stuff for a week's holiday.  I wished I had read the t&cs earlier but I didn't think they would reduce the size of hand luggage!

Oh I will believe me!  Problem is we're flying from Edinburgh at night (cold) but Nice will be boiling hot.  Looks like I've just wear 5 tops instead   ;)
  • My experience is there I always someone now checking the cabin bags for these airlines that have reduced their standard cabin bag as it’s easier to sort out before boarding than cause delays on board.

Usually its the wheel along hard cases that always get asked to be put in the sizer but if it looks like your bag won’t fit under the seat in front I think it’s likely they will check it as well.

If nothing else, it's forced me to take the bare minimum. We're staying in an Airbnb flat which has washing facilities so if I need to I'll do a mini laundry half way through holiday!  Would have been a struggle if we were in a hotel though.
