Thanks for the detailed and comprehensive reply. I think I’m still stuck in the days of James Herriot! 😂
I’m also much better off as an employee too, being a manager is enough for me, I don’t think I would want much more responsibility (though I was toying with the thought earlier in the year ….).
KkAs at 15.07.25:
- When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £233,521
- OPs to mortgage = £11,816 Interest saved £5,28 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends January 2030
Read 40 books of target 52 in 2025, as @ 29th July
Produce tracker: £243 of £300 in 2025

(Related story, I went to the James Herriot museum a long time ago with two friends, and the lady on the desk eyed us up. "Vets, vet nurses or students?" she asked. As it turned out, yes to all, one of each. There clearly is A Look and we had it)

There's no shame in wanting to stay an employee, the way you describe a veterinary practice is a lot like an accountancy practice. The idea of buying into a firm or starting up my own makes me shudder.
I didn't know there was a Jane Herriot museum!5 -
How fascinating! A friend has a few vet practices now .. but doent really do much vetting himself anymore.
he did enjoy doing the 'extra training courses abroad' as tax deductible jollies
I Like running my own business but yes its lots of paperworkDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Dishwasher was delivered today, and installed
All sorts of shenanigans with extended waste pipes and whatnot because of the layout, which made me very glad I'd paid for installation.
All looked good, the machine was running, the guy said everything was going well, and they left.
Ten minutes later, error code. It's not draining. There's a puddle of water in the bottom of it.
Did a quick google - is the drainage pipe kinked? So I dragged the whole thing out, made sure it wasn't, restarted.
Same error code.
Got rid of the water, checked inside the filter, all good. Restarted. Still the same error. Internet searches for this mainly talk about cleaning around this area but this dishwasher has never been used.
Tried to pull the drainage pipe out of the plumbing - the cap is DEFINITELY on the side - but can't, because it's on too tight.
Tried to call C*rries - redirected to the manufacturer.
Called the manufacturer, get put through to someone. They can't hear me.
Try again on the housephone. Past 6 by this point, so voicemessage directs me to call again in the morning.
So if anyone wants to know why I'm eating a whole chocolate yule log from A*di tonight...! (Nothing's ever simple)Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

Are you still within your window to change your mind? Isn't it 14 days? Curries might decide to sort it out rather than uninstall and take it back!
We had a similar issue a few years ago with a fridge from AO and I made them come back and take it away! (Ordered a replacement from Curries)4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 10 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 15 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!2 -
That sounds really frustrating on the dishwasher.
Interesting re the back story on James H and the museum.
I was tempted by a yule log tonight without any of that but then I'm only just eating tea!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

C*rries again and sidestepped the AI to a real person, who went through the normal problems that I can check (all fine) and booked me an engineer visit for a week on Tuesday. They offered me earlier but this is the issue with a non flexible job - you do my day off or it doesn't happen. And I'm definitely not asking parents to sort this out because it would send them into a tailspin.
Also tried to book a flu vaccine - rang the village pharmacy, which informed me that they don't do flu vax bookings over the phone (fair enough). Went to their website, which gives you the option to book every vaccine under the sun except a flu vaccine. It looks like it hasn't been updated (still showing as "expected September"). So sorry small local business, I'm going to T3sco.
Folk music gig tonight, in a town I've never been to accessible by no major roads (at least from my direction).
On and off trying to figure out the Hidden Books Game from the national book token website. So far at 6/20 - very slow going this year!Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
