getting rid of old sofa - cheapest way?

hi there,
i have bought a new sofa and need to get rid of the old one.
sadly, my council have suddenly decided to charge £20 for bulky waste collection (it used to be free up till a couple weeks ago).
charities won't accept the sofa as it's not in best of condition.
i don't think i can give it away for free, as i think the fire safety labels have fallen off?
does anyone know of anyway to dispose of it for free if possible, ideally considering environment, or is taking the £20 hit the best method ?
thanks.

I'd take the hit, £20 isn't a huge charge and the council aren't likely to flytip.2

Leave it outside with a sign saying 'Sofa for sale - £500.'
It'll be gone before you've closed the front door.
But seriously, if no one wants it and you can't get it to the tip yourself, £20 is a bargain.2 -
Or dismantle it yourself and take it to the tip. Personally, for the amount of faff that would take, I’d pay the £20.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
£20 is a bargain given the amount of cost & regulation involved. Only other option is to take it yourself to the tip, certainly cheaper than £20 if you have a large enough vehicle.

Before putting out remember to take off bottom and check for any cash that has fallen down inside, might be surprised and get a help towards the £20.1

Dare I ask how much the new sofa cost? Pretend it was actually £20 more.

Or stick it on Gumtree / Freecycle for free with the condition it must be collected on the given date. Those starting out in their first homes are often grateful for good quality donations, the other is to donate to a chazzer. If it sits outside and is subject to precipitation it will never be taken. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

When a friend offered her (excellent condition) leather suite to a charity shop they refused it on the grounds that it didn't have a UK fire label. Pointing out that the suite had been bought in Germany and so the label was there - but in German - just drew blank looks.4 -
We've dismantled armchairs and sofas to get the remains to the tip, my car is a 'city' one and not exactly big.
Offer it up on FB / gumtree etcPay the councilSplit it and tip it

Was quoted 18 week delivery on ours, wonder how much slippage will be on that.0
