Eonnext smart meter

Hi, has anyone had a problem getting a smart meter from Eonnext?

We used to have storage heaters and a E7 electric meter but recently changed to a gas boiler so no longer using the E7 as before. Spoke with an advisor at Eonnext and they moved us to combined readings for the electric and said we should have a smart meter. We booked an appt which was cancelled by them, booked another and no-one showed.

Have complained to Eonnext who say the appt should not have been booked as they are unable to change the meter due to its complexity! Bit of tooing and frowing with them and they finally said they would only change and E7 to E7 smart meter unless we paid £150+ to change the E7 meter to a standard meter they would then upgrade to smart for free!
Nothing like profiteering 🤬

Has anyone else had anything like this?

  • I guess that in the past storage heaters have been fitted on their own separate off peak wiring circuit. The wiring on your side of the matter will need to be modified and this is your responsibility. I doubt that there is any profiteering going on here but you are at liberty to get an independent quote from a local electrician to carry out what work is needed to accommodate a single rate smart meter.

Why does the OP need to make any changes to the wiring?  The storage heater switched circuits will be redundant and don't need to be touched, and the immersion heater(s) will still work.  All that's needed is a change to the billing (to bill both registers at the same rate), and that certainly doesn't require any change to the meter
If E.On insist on being awkward, just switch to a more helpful company that will bill at single rate without a meter change.  EDF and Octopus are accepting new customers on the SVT, but only if you phone them.  EDF's billing can be a pain so I'd try Octopus first.
Don't forget to tell us how you get on !

Slightly different problem with eonnext and E7.
We had gas supply fitted for the first time in 2020. At that time, we also had a full rewire , and night storage heaters, and hot water tank etc removed.
We then went onto a single rate. This was fine for a while, but then they started billing two rates again. It took ages to sort that out.
Latest problem since smart meter installed.......they don't seem to collect readings. They billed me £4.30 total electricity for the first three months of having a smart meter .
So I started to submit manual readings again. They thank me for the reading, and produce a statement.
The trouble is, there are three readings on the meter, day , night, and total. I submit the total. They're all at the same rate.
After I submit a reading, they take a smart reading, but it's only the day one, so it's less. So it messes up the billing .
After way too many emails etc, they sent a fitter to check everything. He said he couldn't fix it. So not sure how to get around it.

We also had the house rewired and a new consumer unit after the boiler was installed so all the storage heater wiring was removed at that time.

You should only submit the readings for Rate 1 and Rate 2, never the Total reading.

Can't do that, as there is only one box to put numbers in.
Plus, as I said, even if I could do that, then two or three days after I submit the reading, they collect a smart reading from the day figure. What I really need them to do, is stop taking any smart reading, and use my own readings.

No, they email me about 10 times a week asking me to make an appointment for one.......

Until fairly recently they regularly contacted me via text messages, email, and letters to fit one,a quick message using webchat sorted that in ten minutes, try that if it's bothering you they'll soon stop.
No strong feelings either pro,or anti in regard to smart meters I've just simply no need for them,at present or in the forseeable future.
Interesting though that it appears people are either having to fight their suppliers to get smart meters installed,or fighting against them being fitted unwillingly, doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground, targets to be met explains why though, probably.

The crazy thing about is that in some parts of the country ,the installers are snowed under so that you get endless communications about making an appointment then find that there are no appointments available in the foreseeable future !!!

A friend gets constant texts and emails from his provider, Scottish Power, saying to book an appointment for a smart meter. One of the recent ones was that his meters were faulty and needed replacing. He told them to prove the fault existed without removing the meters, his meters are 40 years old and still provide the same monthly readings that they did when he moved into the place in 1983. He uses the same daily kWh's that he used when he moved in, he doesn't have the internet only a smart phone with a 2 Gb data per month. He's a bit like me but reads books or listens to the DAB radio rather than watch TV or surf the net and his daily usage is no more than 2 kWh per day for most days, the exception is the day he uses the washer then it's around 5 kWh.
He has no landline of games consoles, as I said he reads books or listens to the radio.
Someone please tell me what money is
