Chase bank

I am very worried about chase bank. They are more than slow in replying to my concerns. When I went to transfer money from my account at another bank to them their account number and sort code was not recognised by my bank so I decided not to sent any money as I found this to be most unusual. I then tried to close the account. And I’ve being trying to do that for 2 weeks now. They say there is a close option if you click on the three dots to the right of the account name. I can see the three dots but I can’t see a close option. I have sent them pictures of what I see. They say delete and reload the app. I’ve done that twice but it’s still the same. No close option that I can access. It’s now been two days since they last responded to my messages. Why can’t they close my account? Why are their details not recognised by my current bank? Why is their customer service so slow and inept?

They, amongst many other organisations, are not part of the Confirmation of Payee process, yet.
They have indicated their intention to sign up to it.

Just do a test transfer of £1 to assure yourself everything is working before you transfer your intended balance.

I'd suggest their slow response is due to their success and have a huge influx of new customers to deal with, often possibly with the same concern.

If you want to see how popular it is here
Have a read Chase UK discussion - Page 105 — MoneySavingExpert Forum

And I'd hazard a guess there are 20 'Chase' threads... and some people aren't impressed either, but most are.

I tested transferring money from Lloyds Bank account to Chase current as well as directly to chase saving account a few times, it arrived within seconds.
I also recently tested transferring back from Chase current account to Lloyds current account, again it arrived within seconds.

On the app I have, which was updated yesterday, the “Leave Chase” option is in red, at the bottom of the Settings option. You access Settings from the little person in the top left hand corner.

As posted above, transfers normally take seconds.

Click on the account name to open the account. So you are then looking at that particular account page; then click on the three dots on that page and you get this:

There’s no need to be worried about the Chase UK account. They are authorised and regulated by the FCA/PRA and have the £85k FSCS protection, like any other bank. They have a superb 1% cashback offer for debit card spends, a simple app, a great CS which responds swifttly to urgent problems, and they have a fantastic savings account. Don’t close your account, don’t cut your nose off to spite your face! Locate and read the existing MSE threads about Chase.

    For completeness:

    https://www.chase.co.uk/gb/en/support/closing-an-account/

    Closing an account
If the account you want to close has a positive balance, you can close it immediately.

    Open the account*
    Tap the three dots
    Tap ‘Close account’
    Follow the instructions given

*You need to click on the account, which opens that account full screen and then use the 3 dots menu.
Not from 3 dots menu next to the account on the accounts list.

Are you sure this is Chase? As they don't have the concept of a nominated account. They do participate in Faster Payments, so money in and out usually arrives within seconds.

I can't understand why you are very worried, it doesn't sound like you've deposited any money with them, so what do you think your exposure is?  You may not be able to see the close option because you may not be able to close an account that hasn't been "activated" through receiving a deposit.
