Is there a maximum weight for Easyjet hand luggage

As the title says, I can only find the size of bag for hand luggage on an Easyjet flight. Does anyone know if there is a maximum weight. We are flying from Liverpool to Madrid if that makes any difference.

No there is technically no weight limit, BUT you must be able to lift the bag easily and unaided into the overhead locker

Save where the limits set locally are more restrictive, passengers are permitted one standard piece of hand baggage to a volume limit of 55x40x20cm; no weight restriction applies within reasonable limits.

The thing is, in Stansted, just before going through security, you have weigh your 1 piece of allowable hand luggage. I'm not sure if they'll let you pass if you have more than 10 kilos.

Shouldn't be anywhere near 10kg but thanks anyway.

the weight of the bag is dictated by the airline not airport security

Yes and I havent seen bags weighed at Stansted security for a number of months now ... anyone seen different? Even if you were challenged, then as hammy says, it seems to be an airline discretionary thing now and not a security discretionary thing.

Makes you wonder on what basis, and/or for whom, security were doing all that weighing earlier in the year, doesn't it? Were they doing it as a sort of unwritten HM Government additional restriction, or were they doing it to take advantage of (some) airline limits to generally reduce baggage density/ security workload created by the August 2006 restrictions?

I first noticed Easyjets "within reasonable (weight) limits" posters at check-ins in the summer...

It's fascinating how these rules/habits/changes develop so quickly ... personally I always tie a brown label round my neck on a piece of string just in case (or not, as the 'case' may be too big too heavy for them tomorrow ) Bloomin' annoying though, if you are not used to it

How come different rules seem to apply at different airports, they are supposed to be the same across the EU, but we all know that isn't the case.

Well as we have seen from this morning's news reports about January 7th relaxation of hand-baggage one-item-only rule, some airports say they probably won't follow because they can't afford the new scanning equipment purchased by bigger airports.

That sounds a bit odd to me. Perhaps, in the interests of national security we shouldn't ask too much about the difference between old machines and new ones, or big airports and small ones

Prior to last year's security 'silly season' events, there was no weight limit on Easyjet hand luggage. The aircraft passenger weights were altered to keep the weight and balance accurate (extra weight being added to cover the presumption that people would carry more in their hand luggage). There is no security limit on hand baggage weight. Basically its none of their business as they are not the carrier. I am wondering though if perhaps they are surveying the overall weight of handbaggage for the DFT. In which case we can expect more nonsense restrictions in future.

Stansted did - and possibly still does - have a policy of weighing hand luggage at the security check for Ryanair flights. Like most things I suspect this wasn't applied to all bags, just the ones that looked as if they might be over the limit
