Go via your insurance and I'd also report it to the police as a damage only, fail to stop.
    What would that achieve?

I assume the other party was driving a car that was taxed. insured and had a current MOT.

What difference would lack of tax or MOT make?

FWIW, I've been driving cars with no MOT for about 40 years, quite legally.

There are a lot of drivers without at least one from insurance, tax, MOT, valid driving licence, correct registration details.

If only there were some way they could be caught. What we need is a group of people whose job it is to drive round and apprehend vehicles & drivers that fail some sort of simple computerised checking system. We could give them uniforms, liveried vehicles and everything.

    Stupid idea I know....
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
