Wrong item sent - any advice, please help?

Options
I recently ordered a camcorder from the net ready for my holiday over Christmas. Unfortunately instead of a £840 Sony camcorder I received a £52 Philips wireless TV link thing.
I phoned the company (digitech electronics) and explained that there must of been some mistake. They got very funny with me and said that they don't even stock any Philips kit and the mistake is mine!!!
There was no paperwork with the delivery either even though they state that there would of been.
It all looks like I've been ripped off here, does any one have any advice?
I've contacted Mastercard but need to phone them back tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'm going to be libel for this, what do you think?
I really can't afford to lose this much money right before Christmas. It wouldn't take much for me to cry right now.
If anyone has had something like this happen to them can you please let me know what you did and whether you got your money back?
Thanks in advance,
Mike.

  • Do you have any correspondence from them (confirmation pages printed, reciepts etc) confirming the item they were supposed to send you? That might be a start.

Because if you don't, it's your word against theirs...
  • try and find your initial email confirmation, or something like that that lists what you thought you were buying, then you have proof that it was their fault.

    Hi,
Yes, I have the email confirmation, but it's still my word against theirs isn't it?
They could just say that I'm trying it on.
I'm really worried that the credit card company won't back me up and I'll be libel for the full amount, what do you think?
  • Well if you have the email wont it have the date, and their email address on it, with the details of what you were supposed to receive and it will show that what you received was not what you actually bought.

How long ago was it you purchased the goods because you could just try and get a refund and send them back saying there were "not as described" but I dont know if this would work, I am not good in these situations, I just thought I would weigh in as it can be annoying when you are desperate for help and there is no one there to help.

Oh, as for the credit card company, I don't see how you would be liable, you should try and get your money back through them also, as this company has messed things up.

Yes, thanks, I appreciate any advice!

I'm just worried that they say they don't even stock the item (that they did send) so it sounds like one of their staff is not honest and has done this themselves. Especialy as there is no paperwork sent with it!

Maybe I'm just seeing the worst case but this seems like more than just a mistake in delivery.

It came via City Link and it has my name and address on it along with the companies name (Digitech Electronics).

I went to their website, to see if I could see something matching your description and found this:
    http://www.digitechelectronics.com/model-2632.html
Is that the thing they deny selling?

I am a bit confused as you said Sony, yet you said they said they don't sell Phillips kit.

Also: if you've received a Phillips wireless TV thing - and they don't sell phillips kit. Then clearly your phone conversation should just be "I ordered a camcorder; I have not had it; when is it coming?" and don't mention what you got instead.

Well, there are two things now!

The camcorder that I ordered is now taken off their website! It was the Sony HDR-SR8E but I can't find it now - how suspicious is that?!?!?

And to clarify, I ordered this sony camcorder and I received a philips wireless tv thing instead - which they claim they do not sell so it couldn't of been sent - basically they were calling me a liar I think!

The fact that the camcorder that I did order is now no longer on their website, kind of makes me think that the philips thing is definitely one of theirs but its just not on the website either.

It seems to me that they've definitely ripped me off.
