Euros from ATM in Portugal or take cash?

Sorry this maybe an old chestnut.
I need to obtain 800euros cash to pay for the next holiday rental in Spain in June. I will be in Portugal this month and have the usual Halifax Clarity, Starling and a Santander current account with debit card. What will be the most cost effect way of obtaining the cash, should i just get it out in the UK at an exchange or get it out in Portugal? I was not really wanting to risk getting it out in spain in case it goes wrong and we turn up potless. (sorry i'm a glass half empty guy)

Exchange rate almost certainly will be better via the likes of Starling but the question needs to factor in the fees and transaction limits of ATMs in Portugal and if these offset the exchange rate difference... a quick look or Q on Tripadvisor should tell you the ATM costs.

The Santander debit card at a Santander branded ATM in Spain might be the better option ?

Would be worth contacting Santander UK to see if you could arrange a one off 800 Euro withdrawal by prior arrangement at the nearest branch there.

Just an idea, no doubt there will be hoops to jump through.
