I was simply pointing out, that contrary to the info in @eskbanker’s link, and other posters’ assertions, OP was required to submit his at the time of application in his particular circumstances.
I don't know the particular circumstances in any more detail than what was provided in this thread. I simply maintain that nobody absolutely has to return their DL when applying for a replacement, or after receiving a replacement licence.

Anyway, the sun is out, and so am I ☀️

    Lots of waffle here.

All OP has to do is wait till DL comes back & apply then.

    Jobs sorted. 👍

I tried to apply online to join Chase bank but they insist on you having your driving licence *to hand*.  Mine is being renewed at the DVLC so I won't get it back until next century - so I can't join!  I have a picture of the licence but that is not acceptable!  No mention of this loophole in the MSE forum.

    Astonishing!

Wouldn’t you be astonished if someone could open a bank account in your name with a photo of your license??? But people also have an expectation that banks should protect their identity and money at all costs…Online or in branch when has a picture of ID been acceptable… it hasn’t! I’m sure banks aren’t doing this for our inconvenience.
  • As someone who had a chase account, I can’t actually recall the process with my license. I thought I just send them a photo or filmed it.

indeed it is true that DLVA request your old license to be returned, but they seldom chase you if you do not!

Do not mean to make assumptions, but welcome to the modern world, no common sense and all hot air. Can I step off this generation and go back one! Although could be worse, I could be generation Z!

If there's one lesson to be learned from all the posts in this thread:  make a scan or photo of your driving licence as soon as possible in case you lose it or need it for applying for an account.

No, that's not really a lesson learned, in that OP specifically said that didn't help:

That's not a loophole. A loophole is something that lets you in when you shouldn't be able to. This is just one of their stipulations and if you can't satisfy it then their account isn't for you, unfortunately. Maybe just be patient and wait for the licence to come back and then reapply.

Perhaps your "astonishment" would be better directed at DVLA for delay, rather than at a bank trying to prevent fraud. :)

    Use your passport instead.

I did read the alternatives.  I do not have a passport otherwise ....

Easy then - apply for a passport! :-)

So now I'm wondering if you can actually have a Chase account if you don't have either driving licence or passport?
If only people weren't so anti the idea of id cards.
That'd just be something else which would need to be renewed every 5 years, so what would it solve in this case?
