Chase - no you can't apply because your licence is at the DVLC!

I tried to apply online to join Chase bank but they insist on you having your driving licence *to hand*. Mine is being renewed at the DVLC so I won't get it back until next century - so I can't join! I have a picture of the licence but that is not acceptable! No mention of this loophole in the MSE forum.
Astonishing!

Use your passport instead.

What loophole? It's unfortunate that your licence is at DVLA currently but for obvious reasons they want a photo of it rather than a photo of a photo. On another point why did you send your licence off? I didn't think you needed to do so for a replacement, I know I didn't anyway.5

It's hardly astonishing, I'd have said it was expected!
It would be astonishing if they did accept just a photo of it.
Do you have a passport?3 -
DVLA makes it clear that they expect you to send the old one back but only after receiving the new one!kaMelo said:On another point why did you send your licence off? I didn't think you needed to do so for a replacement, I know I didn't anyway.
https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licenceYou must send your old photocard licence to DVLA when you get your new licence.1 -
..... a request that can safely by ignored, too. Why they are asking for it in the first instance is a complete mystery to me. Sounds like bureaucracy gone into overdrive. Just cut the old one up to safely "lose" it when you get the new one.eskbanker said:

To those who are pointing out you send your photo licence back after getting the new one - the OP may have applied by post - which does, still, require the old licence to be sent back first.
As the OP clearly has sent the old licence back this is, I assume, what they've done. It seems a little odd for people to query that without thinking through all the options.2 -
Yes, point taken, the posts should perhaps be read as denoting that licences can be renewed without sending away the old one - it's a free country and people can choose whichever supported method they like, but it still seems odd to me that someone prepared to use an app for banking would choose to use a postal service for something done more simply online....Zanderman said:To those who are pointing out you send your photo licence back after getting the new one - the OP may have applied by post - which does, still, require the old licence to be sent back first.

It was due for the three year renewal and they don't accept alternatives to the original. I tried the post office 'option' but their system has been down for a very long time and appears to be likely to remain that way. Hence.Lawrence0

Not quite true - you can apply by Post without sending them your DL. They do say you should send your current photocard licence, if you have it - so clearly, you can still apply by Post if you have lost/mislaid your DL...................Zanderman said:To those who are pointing out you send your photo licence back after getting the new one - the OP may have applied by post - which does, still, require the old licence to be sent back first.
