theres an app available to increase audio levels, called speaker booster full.
Why would Amazon have unnecessarily restricted the volume?

Safety maybe? There were problems with earphones and people giving themselves long term deafness by winding the volume up

I don't think its a safety issue but I remember a similar app bass boost? from a long time ago when cheap 7" tablets
    were awash on ebay.

One downside to them was a low volume level but that app increased the output, it was clearly noticeable when the app
was running or not.  Possibly different settings for the sound chip, maybe it turned it Mono to increase the volume or
reduced its quality?  No idea but it did work.

Another vote for the Amazon HD10 tablet. Got mine on an Amazon sale day for the ridiculous price of £79. An absolute steal. Its got a great battery life, decent screen for watching BBC iPlayer or Netflix and is thin and light to use. I followed a YouTube clip to install the Google Play Store and remove the Amazon ads on the lockscreen.
