Hi Dusty - I too love linguistics and also appreciate local dialects/idioms. There are some accents which I find grate a little, and I couldn't watch Rab C Nesbit as I really had no idea what he was saying but usually can attune my ear quite quickly to people. When I was working I was asked 2 or 3 times to speak to people on the phones when colleagues had trouble understanding them although I cannot for the life of me imitate other dialects or speak other languages. It's not just the different words I like but the rhythms and inflections as well. Confusingly I call the midday meal lunch and dinner, and the evening meal tea/dinner/supper according the what I'm eating and when, and also who I am speaking to. Similarly I have a living room, a sitting room, and a lounge - all the same room - and the room I am in right now is variably the spare room, the study, or the craft room. Quite a lot of rooms to fit into a 2 bed bungalow :). Right, I'm off to sit on the sofa or settee (again I use both interchangeably but never couch). For reference, i am born and bred in Northampton which is East Midlands I guess, although we get BBC Anglia News. No wonder I'm confused!

:)Rab C Nesbit! EEK!. I always had to use subtitles with him. And even Lorraine on ITV  I find hard to follow. There is a scot on another Sky bloke,Nial Paterson, and only get 1 word in 3 unless I concentrate hard. I always use subtitles for him too! :D
I am just hopeless at understanding accents,my heart sinks when I get a Philippino on call centres etc. In USA I can understand north eastern accents, and to some extent western(all those John Wayne films) but southern accents I find almost impenetrable.
Had to laugh at all the rooms you have,I suppose you have a mini Tardis?
I personally always use a couch

Have been having a bit of a day off. Mr Dusty sat and watched March of the Day and the EFL Show all morning,I then made dinner, and then Mr D watched Womens Superleague live match on TV and another hour flicking through channels then went off for a nap. I intended to watch all sorts of things, but off course fell asleep. I woke feeling really exhausted and  tried to watch  abrain exploding programme about modern maths theories, string theory, multiverses etc. Not too sensible with a brain only partly functioning. At least esoteric theories about quantum physics was much more understandable or credible than what is happening on the real time UK political scene. Never turned on the news at all today :D
New week tomorrow, may have to get Mr Dusty to add more money to my bank account. I put in £500 each month, normally ample,i but now we are getting nearer Xmas I am going to be spending more on my weekly shopping as well as now paying £238 for energy bills, that £500 not a comfortable figure,so I need to put a lump sum in for xmas things, etc.I'll put in an an extra £300 for now.
Expensive day for both of us,since stepdaughter 1 who worked in a hospital had to retireon reaching 65 a couple of months ago. Still no sign of her retirement package in sight!.Ouch. And stepdaughter 2 has completed chemo and will be in the hands of the surgeons, though no details yet. Thank goodness we are frugal saving people or it would be a terrible time. After another year of finding a couple of thousand pounds just for fuel, the situation may be more difficult. Ignoring it for now! :D
Well, thats it for today, will make supper soon, and then I think it will be early to bed. Both of us had dripping noses and were sneezing today, dont know whats going on,hope its not too bad.!
Reading seems to be getting rarer now. Still havent reached even 10 titles for this month, cant focus for more than 10-15 mins at a time. I'd say I haveat least 600,maybe 700 pages to read to finish off my challenges for October, thats 100 pages a day.Ouch.

Mr Dusty and I were under the weather yesterday, feeling weak and just off colour, and Mr D went to bed at 7.30 pm,didnt even want supper. That's really unusual. He feels pretty much the same this morning, but has dragged himself to town to send money to stepdaughter one.
I'm not really sure what is wrong with us,since I have these feelings of weakness, queasy stomach regularly, symptoms of a raft of possible illnesses, but we both had some catarrh. No cough really,I am not sure whats wrong.Better not be stingy with the heating,as I really have been this month, but its sensible to support our health as much as possible.
I feel sorry for old people terrified of heating bills who will have to ration the heat. I truly believe thousands of people are going to be very ill,or die. Chest infections will turn to pleurisy, and pneumonia. Nightmare for the NHS,with beds already full of covid patients.
So relieved we have such a well insulated cozy  house.I think I will use aroumd 300 units less this October than last. Cant check,as yet again the Scottish Power website is not showing any figures. Most annoying.

Very very annoyed with council.Just got an email from them saying they could not comply with my request because ''unable to locate bin. If they actually came, they obviously didnt come round the back because there are all the bins, unmistakable. Mr Dusty  tied twine on the lid,so it is servicable for now.
I was wondering if I had missed some instructions in the original email, but I cant see any problem It said

Your request should be completed during the week commencing 17/10/2022. We will need access to your property in order to allow us to deliver/repair your container(s) securely.

Please ensure that we can access your property boundary in order for us to carry out your request

We  are in a terrace, with a passageway to get to the back yard where the bins are. Nowhere was I told to put the bin out front, and surely any sensible person would check the back of the property..where probably 90% of people put the bins near the back door.
    Not amused.

Sorry to be AWOL,have been very poorly/ After 4 days Mr Dusty is improving well, still got a dripping nose, but thats it. Naturally I am feeling awful, sickly, weak, and the gunk is blocking my airwaves. No sleep last night,5 minute dozes, and moaning and groaning. Totally shattered. Asd@ delivery this morning, and Mr Dusty had to do it all. Of course today we had the old misery who doesnt help at all, just stands there. Mr D was just piling things on top of each other willy-nilly.I got him to at least put away all the frozen stuff, but all the rest is sitting in heaps waiting for me to pull myself together enough to decide where its all goting.
I'm off to put way all the stuff, then I'm going back to bed
Mr Dusty has gone to town, and is supposed to be getting himself something to eat. Good luck with that ,he hasnt a clue :D ......................
Oops, was feeling sickly, and closed my eyes a moment and I'd dozed for almost an hour. I'm off to bed maybe I'll sleep a little more. Leaving all the groceries still on the benches :)
