Been busy today sorting out doing new monthly threads on my various reading groups on LibraryThing and a SF site I use. Have been choosing my reads for August. I have quite a few reading challenges or plans. There is of course my Canada challenge,3 books to read there. Then the children's book, this month it is a Nancy Drew mystery story. For my 1930s thread I have several old classic reads, and a few short stories. Then I have several books I have in progress carried over from July, and I need to read a few books for my Alphabet challenge. 2 more authors to read, and about 6 alphabet letters for titles.I .probably have around 15 books on my TBR. If my eye works, and my back doesnt stop me from sitting at the computer to read, that if fairly doable. We'll see how it goes.I was checking out something on my Librarything group, and remembered something I used to enjoy sharing with my group in the past. It was called ''Hail and Farewell'' Each day I would comment on authors if it was their birthday,or death day,and we would share what books we had read by those authors.,and our favourites. For instance, today in 1965 J K Rowling was born. And a fave author of mine,Faye Kellerman, wife of Jonathan Kellerman. was born today in 1952 I have read 14 of her books, starting with The Ritual Bath.As for deaths, today in 1944 Antoine de Saint- Exupery, author of the Little Prince died. And in 2007 R D Wingfield died. He was the author of the Inspector Frost books. If anyone wants to drop a comment about any of the above,I would enjoy discussing themOff to the kitchen to get ice cream. Mr D is really stressing about the football, its nailbiting time, the tense crowd is rather quiet.Germany is pressing hard.I with comfort him with Vienetta!4

Yay,gold star for 31 AFD s in July. I do fine most of the time when just at home,no alcohol in sight. But its quite a struggle making my asd@ list and not adding the Famous Grouse.
Only one drink in 4 months, got to be good.

We’re safe , Covid rates well down and only 6 percent food inflation.
we’re in the middle of France 300 kms north of Bordeaux but we did have a fine smoke haze and the smell of ash for two days. It was quite alarming. Keep safe, Dusty!4 -

Katiehound said:well, as long as they don't crash into a black hole- that would be a disaster!Yesterday the moods were fluctuating like mad,but more in a comedy way.Not sure if anyone else remembers the crazy music that introduced Laurel and Hardy films? The Cuckoo Song I think it was called.I had it running through my head all morning yesterday.I had planned out my morning ahead. Was feeling a bit better, minimal back pain,so expected to get some serious kitchen cleaning done, mop the floor, sort and put away the mounds of washing heaped in the dining room Hard luck. There I was washing up and planning ahead when Mr D decided he wanted to do the gardenI am the indoor girl, opening windows, sliding blinds aside, plugging in the clippers etc. I then got on with the washing up ,,for about one minute. Then Mr D sliced the cable on the clippers..Cue looking for a razor blade to shave away the thick outer plastic without cutting the copper wire. Mr D uses a safety razor and the only old fashioned razor blade was really old and blunt. OF COURSE Mr D would not take my advice,he only exposed a little of the wire, and sure enough after 30 mins work in the burning sun,STANDING in the burning sun I was in agony. Imagine his surprise when I tugged the wire and the two pieces came apart?
.
That was when I thought of Laurel and Hardy. Remember Ollie's famous deadpan look at the camera when Stan did something spectacularly stupid. I was doing such a deadpan.Once again we started,he did make the exposed copper a little longer, but not the length I advised of course. We spent another half hour in the sun though I insisted on a chair this time. All to no avail,it still was an unholy mess IMO,and wouldnt work.I'll continue yesterday's saga later,he has just come through the door and I expect we will do our Laurel and Hardy routine again (cue the Cuckoo Song)

Hah,I never finished the post because I was dealing with him AND my Asd@ delivery. Got a nice bloke today who rapidly put things on the bench and I scuttled around moving stuff to other surfaces to make space for them. Super quickNo time to continue the continuing story of the Dusty family for now. I need to go in the kitchen (
) to prep the dinner-peel potatoes,do carrots, dice onions, slice mushrooms. Put away the groceries still sitting on the bench.Once again NONE of the jobs I had intended to do......sigh.........
See you in 10,hopefully.When again I will need to rest my aching back.5
