dreaming said:dustydigger said:Anyone else remember Childens Hour on the Light Programme? There were a host of songs which were very popular and appeared repeatedly on that show. There was a delightful collection of 100 Childrens Favourites from the show Check out the titles,it will be a delightful trip down memory lane for us oldtimers! And Mrs Dale's Diary!,maybe I was 10I also remember as a kid a programme called Tales from the Black Museum. The Black Museum housed a collection of items from real crimes, and in the series a door would open and footsteps would echo through the museum and stop at an item,a noose,a weapon,a vial of poison. We would then have a true crime story - narrated by Orson Wells!"This is Orson Welles speaking from London." (Big Ben starts chiming in the background)."The Black Museum, repository of death... Here, in this grim stone structure on the Thames which houses Scotland Yard, is a warehouse of homicide, where everyday objects, a piece of wire, a chemist's flask, a silver shilling, all are touched by murder." (dramatic music)Have never forgotten those echoing steps!

Wireless refers to receiving the signal I.e., radio waves rather than how the device is powered (battery or mains). Wondered the same myself as a child.4

Ha, recognised most of those songs.
I seem to remember that Annika Rice regularly does a 'Children's favourite' programme on R2 on a public holiday. Christmas? and plays things like Sparkie, Ugly duckling etc.!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

+ health : Morning all! Yesterday I was AWOL,lots of niggling little body problems - scabby head, scabby mouth, ear infection,a cut which heals at glacial speed, curled up arthritic hand,so typing a pain literally and physically, and nagging back pain when standing too long.Nothing major, but irritating.Disastrous day in the kitchen too. Struggling to lift my heavy slow cooker, dropped it,it now has a 5 inch crack down one side.and one handle has broken off. Then when I turned on the oven it wouldnt work. Finally something I had been expecting for years happened.Have ordered a Crock Pot due to come today, and a mini oven,a cheaper one than I would have liked,if I didnt need the crock pot,too..But it is an experiment really, it hopefully will last a couple of years till the present energy crisis calms down a bit.In a dream world I would get a double oven. DS2 has just got a lovely new kitchen and his double oven is beautiful. At a convenient height too.Just a fantasy dream though, there is nowhere to install it in my small kitchen.I am also jealous of DS1 who also did his kitchen recently. He has a lovely freezer which is a pull out drawer, everything in sight,no things hidden away in the back,no struggling to bend down to bottom drawer.I love exploring kitchen brochures as a nice pastime. No hopes of ever getting things, but I can dream! After all that I had an appointment for a blood test. I could have cooked my pies in the bus,the heat was horrendous. 2 little windows at the front of the bus,the bus full to the brim with sweaty people. Delightful. No wonder my BP was 152/84No happy that my weight has gone up 3 lbs in July, after steadily losing a pound a week every single month since January 2021. Thyroid makes weight loss difficult,so I have been proud of that slow but consisyent loss. Now a gain of 3 lbs in less than a month. May need drastic action, which is a pain.OK,off to the kitchen(my slogan) to defrost salmon. Will have to make boiled potatoes, something Mr Dusty is not keen on,but no oven for roasties. At least they are new potatoes fresh from a friend's garden,so if I slather them in mint and butter Mr D might not grumble too much...(ha ha,that man could grumble for Britain.....)2

Oh boy,Mr D went to town to send his sick daughter more money for the next stage of treatment, and when he returned I immediately spotted the recipient's name on the document was mispelled. From experience we know any deviation means the money transfer will be blocked. M D s writing is very very bad. In particular he does a very strange capital letter G.He does a sort of c,with a long tail, which as he sits the end of the tail on the line instead of the ''c'' part, and it is very shaky, can look like a capital S
Obviously the clerk misread it as an S,and Mr D didnt notice. He is now going back to town to cancel and redo. Because I said he would probably have to start from scratch,so take ID in case,he then stubbornly refused to take it We have quarrelled about it for 10 minutes,he went back upstairs but I dont know if it was to sneakily get it or not. I also suggested he take an old form with the proper spelling on,but he categorically refused. Oh dear, coping with the vagaries of old age and diminishing functions is similar to dealing with a fractious child. He just will not accept any advice I give him whatsoever No doubt my cortisol levels have skyrocketed yet again

Been waiting all day for my crockpot to arrive,no signs yet. Am cooking brisket,on the stove top,low heat will take forever as brisket takes a lot of cooking. Dont know how many times I have begged Mr Dusty NOT to buy brisket.. With the slow cooker you can just put it on and leave overnight. And the liquid doesnt evaporate either, cooking on the hob means watching carefully. The lid on my pan doesnt fit very well,so the liquid goes down. Am really missing our old butcher, who closed down in May.Made the new potatoes yesterday, and predictably Mr D wasnt keen.I had to just fry them up a little and add melted butter, but found I had no mint sauce. Have now added that to my asd@ delivery. £63.09. Seems getting below £60 is no longer feasible.Back to cooking my usual marabel potatoes today, which I fried up much more nicely in butter, and Mr D had nothing to say, which is a winWell, end of July,a neverending month, the first half full of worry and tension about my scan results, the other half with nasty back pain hampering me most of the time. A bit improvement now,but 10 minutes is about the limit I can stand up cooking.. But thats pretty standard for me anyway,so its pretty much back to the old routine. Must pull myself together mentally, try to rejoin the human race.3
