Chase UK does not take the train

So far I have tried using my Chase account to buy UK rail travel through several venues, all either caused issues or failed:
through Cross Country for e-ticket, card gets rejected unable to book at all;
through Chiltern for paper ticket to collect, booking goes through but card is rejected in the station machine, unable to collect tickets;
physically buy and collect from the station ticket machine, card is rejected in payment stage and machine displays transaction can proceed through cash only. However 5-10 minutes later payment goes through.
Over the years I circulated my current account & debit card personal banking through many banks, and have never seen the above issues. To people who have been using their Chase debit card to book UK rail travel, have you faced any problems?

I have used it at machines (as contactless) without any issues. Have you registered the card by using the PIN?0

Seen this on another forum, it's due to the Chase card having two different numbers, one on the card and a different one when used at a POS. So when a ticket is bought online the regular number is used, however when you attempt to collect the ticket it presents a different number and so the collection is blocked.0

yep that's the issue alright. I just used mine to purchase rail tickets on trainline. OP could do this then download the TL app and the tickets will appear there.The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
Purchased e-tickets with Avanti West Coast via their online website and paid for them with my Chase card details without issue.
Just needed to approve the transaction in the Chase app.
Have also purchased day return tickets at the ticket machines at train stations, on the day of travel, without issue.0 -
The card will work for most e-tickets into an app wallet, the challenge will come when you buy tickets online which need to be collected from a ticket machine for a physical ticket as the card number used online will differ from that the physical card will present to the collection machine.0

You could try to collect at a ticket office as they'll be able to see the booking with the reference number alone.0

Not all stations have manned ticket offices.0

My thanks to all the posters for your replies.

If you have a smartphone on which to run the Chase app, which you obviously have if you have a Chase debit card, surely you can use electronic tickets?0
