Messages Function not working for me

Can someone please help me? I am trying to Message an individual but when I type in their user name & proceed to writing the message, the recipient name disappears. 

I thought it might just be one person but I have tried several names & the same thing occurs every time.
I did log out of MSE & log back in, but no joy.

I too have been having PM problems. I post on the OS Forum and since April my messages don't seem to be reaching the poster intended or I'm unable to respond to either of their messages.

I can write a response but it just seems to disappear.

Both forumites always respnod to messages so It's very odd.

Thank you for posting here Mrs SD. I was beginning to think it was just me.

I don't normally have pm problems so it seems odd.

I've only needed to post on site feedback a couple of times over the years Mrs CD but I seem to remember it was generally Mon-Fri when a response would come.

Most staff seemed to be available Mon- Fri only and I assume it's the same with the newer Vanilla site.

Hello @Mrs_Salad_Dodger  - thanks for reporting this problem. We've replied to your email asking for a few more details about what kind of tech you are using to access the forum.

If anyone else is having similar problems, please let us know in this thread, giving details of what sort of device and browser you are using, so we can try to track down where the issue lies.

Good morning James. I post on my laptop and Firefox is my browser. PMs have never been a problem until recently.

I think I have been able to replicate the problem described by @Mrs_Salad_Dodger on both iPhones and iPads - I'll keep looking into it and will add it to our internal tracking system for tech issues.

In the meantime I would suggest using the button on a user's profile page if you want to PM them.

@pollyanna_26  - my initial impression is that the problems you are describing are slightly different to those raised by Mrs SD

Please could you email us at forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com giving examples of users you have tried and failed to PM?

Our software suppliers can also reproduce the problem you described and have assigned it to their techies to look at.

In the meantime they have asked us to share this workaround:

Quick tip, however: If you start to type the username and then backspace/delete a character or two, the dropdown will populate with the username and you can tap it to select it.
