Toyota warranty - brake disc replacement
Hi all
I have a 11 month old Toyota. The car has done 5800 miles and had its first service at a Toyota main dealer last week. The service showed one of the brake discs badly corroded. The dealer said it would be covered under the warranty and they would replace it with the brake pads. The car went in yesterday and they replaced the corroded disc and the pads.

Since then I have spoke with a friend who works for another car brand main dealer and is a mechanic with over 40 years service. He said that he has never replaced one brake disc and they should always be replaced as a pair for efficiency purposes. I have spoken with the Toyota main dealer who say Toyota will not let them replace the disc that is ok under the warranty rules and will not replace it as a goodwill gesture. They said the wear on the disc that has not been replaced is so little it will not make any difference not replacing it.
I would appreciate views here - is it advisable to replace one brake disc like this with so little wear on one side? Would you now pursue this with Toyota GB or higher up in the main dealer?
We have bought several cars from this dealer and have a PCP deal with them. We also have another older Toyota we get serviced by then. To be fair the service has always been excellent and better than other main dealer brands we have used in the past. However, I am a bit miffed they won’t replace the other disc and am considering whether I will buy another car from them and continue to get my cars serviced by them. I have lost some faith in the warranty the car has.
Thanks for reading this - any views appreciated.

Corroded in less than a year, and low mileage?.

Yes, I was surprised myself. They are not sure why exactly and the brake pads were crumbling too.0

@collins74 was it a rear brake on a hybrid vehicle ?
I had similar corrosion issues on a Yaris a few years ago, with regenerative braking the rears get very little use unless you press the pedal really hard.1 -
It was the front drivers side brake disc.0

Replacing in pairs isn't to do with wear, it's to ensure there is no braking imbalance between the 2 sides. After allowing the new disc and pads to bed in for a few miles, stamp hard on the brakes and check it pulls up in a straight line. If it doesn't, take it back, if it does then chances are it will be fine.1

Anyway assuming the other side remains OK I think your mileage is low enough that it won't make much difference long term.1 -
Very odd.
Sounds as if it could have been faulty pads causing the issue.
With such low mileage I wouldn't worry about any imbalance.1 -
No issues due to mileage
Non corroded disc will have very limited wear after 5600 miles anyway.I own an EV. AMA0 -
I cant believe they only replaced one disc and one side of pads.I would make sure thats all they did, visual inspection or paperwork. Then call Toyota uk and complain, One, a disc should not fail in that time frame. Two, both should have been replaced. As its making braking uneven and it pulls a bit.You do not feel safe.1

It won't make braking uneven, hydraulic systems are inherently self-adjusting and once the pads have bedded in you'll be fine.
