Under 6 months it is assumed the fault was present at the point of sale unless the dealership can evidence it was not.

What has caused the HG to fail if that is even the problem. Example a stone hits the radiator causing the coolant to leak out, the engine then over heats and destroys the HG. This would not be the dealer or credit providers responsibility and would be a normal risk of car ownership.

You would need to give the dealer a chance to inspect the car to determine the nature and cause of the fault.

The fault taking nearly 6 months to develop does strongly suggest it is not an underlying problem. That said if it is a 1 litre ecoboost has it had its recall work for the coolant degas line replacement done.
How about getting it back to the dealer? Do you know if I or they should be responsible to getting it back to them? £500 just to transport it to them is a worry..!

Was thinking st line which are the 1 litre, although the degas issue also affected the 1.6 fitted to the St around that age.

I think - I stand to be corrected that it is only the dealer's responsibility to collect the car within the Distance Selling cooling off period, after that it's down to the purchaser.
