I too was moved to Eon Next from Symbio and I know that come April despite paying £125 a month we had a debit not a credit and we are using 7100kWh of electricity a yeah so similar to the OP

If we had only paid £100,£90 then £42.50 over the winter period October '21 til April '22 the debt would be approx £600 not taking into account any start credit.

The OP says they started with a credit of £100 so call it £500 owing as debt as I cannot see how they haven't used 65-75% of their total year energy usage from Oct '21 - Apr '22

    Could you clarify OP?

The problem is when you pay double the amount you paid before it is not a 200% increase, it is 100% increase.

You have deduct often 100% from the increases people think they had.

What is your annual consumption please (in kWh) ?  I assume electric.

    On face value I would suggest  about 100 kWh a month  (@15p = £15 + standing charge + VAT) ?

There are so many ways to compare numbers but the most accurate way is using accurate meter readings from 12 months ago and now. My spreadsheet tells me that in the 12 months to 31 March 2022 I used 3311kWh electricity and spent £610.20 across three suppliers, Neon Reef, Symbio & E.ON Next. That much electricity over 12 months at current E.On Next Flex tariff  would cost £1080.87. This is a year on year increase of 77.13%.
Similarly for gas, in the 12 months to 7 April 2022 I used 13346kWh and paid SSE £476.89. That much gas over same period at current E.ON Next Flex tariff would cost me £1080.77, which is a 126.62% increase. My account is about £240 in credit, as I haven't been billed for gas used since 7 April, and credit will increase steadily during the summer when my gas consumption is virtually zero (30kwh per month maybe), ready to to deal with whatever increases October throws at us!

I'm sure there are a lot of people who were paying less than their actual usage required, either because they were using up credit already established, or were (perhaps unknowingly) running up a debt.
For them, a jump back to reality, plus suppliers trying to make their cashflow more favourable, results in a very large % increase in cost, no matter how you calculate it.

Monthly payments are also fairly meaningless. During the periods mentioned in my previous post, I made 3 monthly payments of £48.94 to Neon Reef, who paid me back £29.47 when I left them, then 4 monthly payments of £35.56 to Symbio plus a payment of £30.52, £23.78 of which was credited to my E.ON Next account, and to complete the year I made 4 monthly payments of £75 to E.ON Next. SSE for gas took 5 payments of £34, then 3 of £40, then 3 of £44 and 2 of £50, but now they owe me £65.72 as I closed the account. Now I am paying £185.21 to E.ON next to cover both electricity and gas. I have no idea how to state the percentage increase in monthly payments!
