I was moved to Eon.Next in October following the collapse of Symbio. I was about £100 in credit with Symbio which was transferred to my Eon.Next account. After an initial DD of about £90, my DD was reduced to £42.50 per month. I have given monthly readings ever since. Despite being over the winter period, I now have a credit of over £250.

I appreciate that since April I am now on their standard tariff and that this is going to increase again at the end of the year. However, I was genuinely shocked by the email from them today saying that later this month my DD would be going up to £184.25, an increase of over 330%.

I have asked them to justify this increase.

EDIT - thanks for all the contributions. I now know that this is not unusual based on my usage and the tariff increases.

What is you annual kWh usage perhaps that will help in the calculation as energy is expensive.

As a comparison I was also with Symbio at 14p kWh for electricity and now it's 29.24p kWh so when I was with Symbio £75 a month and now £177.70 a month if we are frugal.

The projected annual kWh on my bill from Eon.Next is around 7100 kWh even though it was only 6300 kWh on my last few Symbio bills.

What was your actual annual usage in kWh though? If little has changed, that will give you a realistic forecast, although the cost on a variable tariff is much harder to predict.

Is this electric ?    Even with Symbio usage and 2021 rates at 14p is  nearly £1000 pa.

Online account credits can be misleading -  they show the DD's but not the energy cost
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

£184 is bang on for 7100 kWh if you happen to be on a fixed deal at the current price capped rates. If not the October price cap rise will probably mean that is a bit low even taking into account the £200 energy loan crediting accounts in October.

What you will find on the energy board is estimates and pounds mean nothing when working out actual costs. Actual kWh usage is what is required 👍

    6300KWh at 28p = £1764
    365 days standing charge at  40p = £146
    --------------------------------------------------------
Total  £1910 per year = £159.16 per month
    ================================

What do you mean you are since 1st April on their SVT? What tariff where you before?

I though Ex Symbio customers went onto the SVT when they joined Eon Next?

I meant I was on their standard tariff before April then their increased standard tariff after April.

Thanks for the calculations - especially pochase as 6300 kWh was my actual annual usage while with Symbio so I have an idea what would be a "reasonable" figure for my DD, perhaps a little less if they factor in that I'm still in £250 credit.

On face value that would mean you've credited your account with (£100+£90+4x£42.50) £360 and have £250 credit, so you've spent £110. Six months standing charge is around £50 so you've only used £60-worth of electricity in that time, which is less than 300kWh.
It's much more likely that you haven't been billed for all your consumption to date and you owe them a three-figure sum.

When were your last meters read and who read them? Do you have any readings from roughly a year ago? If so provide these as well as your current meter readings.
