Oven fan constantly turning off and on during cooking

Options
Hi,

I recently got a new electric oven, Hotpoint Class 4 SI4 854 H IX Electric Single, and when I use it in the Conventional Bake mode the fan constantly turns off and then on again during cooking. This happens around every 30 seconds - 1 minute.

When looking at the over, I can see the fan spinning and then it starts to slow down until it stops. It'll then start up again. I only use the Conventional Bake mode so am not sure if it is happening on other modes as well.

I just wanted to check if this is normal behaviour for a modern oven (my old oven was really old, so not necessarily a good comparisons), or if it is something to be worried about.

Thanks.

I'm certainly not aware of that as being normal behaviour in fan ovens, but I think the best thing would be to email Hotpoint themselves in case it's a new fangled baking feature.

Our oven has two fans... one is a cooling fan for the electronics and the other the big one at the back of the oven for "fan assisted" modes.  Certainly with ours you can hear the cooling fan running irrespective of mode but the visible fan only spins on certain modes.

Wonder if they've tried to get one fan to do both jobs and hence its just coming on occasionally when in conventional mode?

Looking at the daily reference guide for your oven I found this paragraph

CONVECTION BAKE For cooking meat, baking cakes with fillings or roasting stuffed vegetables on one shelf only. This function uses gentle, intermittent air circulation to prevent food from drying out excessively.

I wondered if you had got the oven set to one of the automatic functions, there are lots, which use that setting. Here's a link to the guide in case you haven't already got it.

Ah, good spot, thanks. That must be it. That is the mode we use and the fact that is says "intermittent air circulation" confirms what I see with the fan going on and off.

    Thanks.
