    buy a Miele...
Can I remind you this is an MSE forum. I'm sure if the OP wanted recommendation for a new vacuum he would have asked for them.
yes, but you're asking how to fix a product/brand with a pretty bad reliability record. if you want a hoover that lasts forever AND does what it's designed to do, you get a Miele :).
This dyson seems pretty reliable to have lasted 25 years :)

I'm not sure where you're getting this from. The early Dysons had a very good reliability record, clearly shown by the fact the OP is still using theirs 25 years later.

Re quality: Yes, the repair shop said that same thing when we first took it in a few years ago, that Dysons were great when they were made in the UK - when first invented - but that now they are made out of the UK & are nowhere near as reliable (that's what the repairman said, anyway!). And he looked well impressed that we were still using the oldest model! ,-)

Anyway, still looking for a solution. Will probably have to get it mended at the shop again, at this rate, though have been thinking about duct tape! Where's those episodes of 'MacGyver' . . . ?!

You've got a solution, just get a new hose. The one you've got sounds like it's had it's day.
