Just thought I’d post my experience of Amex
i needed to pay for a family holiday to 9k and only have a 3700 limit on Amex
wanted to use the Amex to get a flight voucher etc
so I asked on chat how I can put through account a large purchase when my limit isn’t enough.
They said split the purchase and pay back and then pay again…..easy I thought
so i paid 3k and then paid it back and wait until credit shows on account and then spent 2k
all ok until the 3rd transaction of 3k….be8ng declined
Account shows I have the credit available but the transaction is being declined.
after contacting Amex it appears account has a limit per month of 5K ( unknown to me ) and this cannot be altered.
anyone heard of this situation before

Yes.
Some lenders cap total monthly spend at your limit.2 -
Is that monthly spend limit advertised or in Credit Agreements.

So my account in the App shows i have 3600 credit available from a credit limit of 3700
but that isn’t true….if for example I went and bought a coffee from costa etc for £4 then this would be declined as I have already spent enough on this card.
dispite the app showing* I have more than 3k of credit available

This is the first time I'm hearing about monthly limits, which is a bummer when looking to spend large amounts for flight tickets. I'll definately keep this in mind when I spend large amounts.

I've never come across this (but of course I may never have gone near any hidden monthly limit). Is it a brand new Amex with a promotional offer on points etc? Such a promotion may have a limit.0

No sure if this helps, but you can check your monthly spending power the App, once you are logged in you should have, Make Payment - Check Spending Power - Manage PIN, put in an amount and they will tell you if it will be approved or not.0

They will not have this option as they have an Amex Credit Card, not an Amex Charge Card.0
