Smart Meter Online Data

Hi, I have a smart meter but no no in-home-display and British gas claims they're not compatible with my smart meter to get readings automatically. So I recently downloaded loop.home app which can access my smart meter data online and show trends, etc.. but doesn't give me the actual current reading. Are there alternative apps to access my smart meter data online? Thanks in advance!

If they are unable to remotely read your meter you need to go to your meters and read them directly at the meter and submit the readings.

Most, if not all websites that can access your smart meter data won't be able to show you your current usage. They will always be about 30 minutes behind, sometimes only showing yesterdays data, depending on when the last data was retrieved from your meter.
  • You could buy an IHD/CAD from Chameleon (IVIE Bud) or Hildebrand (Glow). Both companies are Registered DCC Other Users and they are able to pair their devices with your smart meter.

I was looking at he Glow one because i have the Bright app but i was under the impression that they can't acutally pair with a smart meter directly they can only display the data from the DCC by connecting through to the internet, so only show what you can see on the app anyway.

Are you saying they actually connect to the meter directly aswell like a IHD and show realtime KH kW usage?

Which of this devices is able to read the meter for the current register for submitting the reading to the supplier?

I understand the OP that he/she wants to read the meter so he/she does not need to go to the meter to read it when giving the meter readings to the supplier.

Strange is that the meter is uploading the data for use of third party apps but BG claims they cannot read it.

The IVIE and Hildebrand devices should both be capable of displaying the total index reading of each meter.
If the OP has E7 or a similar multi-rate electricity supply, all bets are off.

A SMETS meter communications hub can have up to 4 IHDs/CADs connected to it. Both the IVIE Bud and Glow IHD/CADs are connected to the communications hub by the Registered DCC User.  These IHDs will show instant kW for electricity, and kWh usage for both gas and electricity. There is no real-time data available for gas, as the gas meter only sends data to the gas proxy meter in the communications hub once every 30 minutes. The gas proxy meter does the clever bit: it converts gas volume data to kWh and cost ( the cost value will not exactly match your actual bill).

Is that because the gas proxy meter uses a fixed colorific value rather than being sent one?

That's interesting thanks for the reply.

When i moved into my home without any IHD left behind British Gas made out is was a big and expensive task to supply and connect another IHD but actually sounds a lot simplier than they made out if i can just buy one and get it connected remotely.

I didn't know I could buy a third-party IHD. Sounds great to me. Thank you! Although if it's doable, someone should make an app for it instead of yet another piece of hardware to have.
