Clearly triggered something.
I even had to go through one when I transferred some money to Virgin Money....are they scammers too?
People are giving you legitimate explanations for all your 'issues' yet you still seem to be adamant about calling one of the biggest banks in the world a scam. Bizarre.2 -

First alarm bell is that NatWest can't verify my new payee (me) details. Why not? I can still make transfers at my own risk.
Second is that there are three different Chase apps on the Play Store! Take your pick...
I like the idea of 1.5% but this has scam written all over it.
Can't gamble £k on this. I'm out.

They're aren't duplicate apps. There is an app for the US Chase Bank and there is an app for the UK Chase Bank. That is it.
This has been explained to you. You don't appear to be listening to anybody.7 -

(Of course they are not - just like the Chase US and the Chase UK serve different markets)
OP - there is no scam - but there does seem a degree of dramatic effect running through this thread...
Of course you do your due diligence - but that will no doubt tell you that there are quite a number of banks that haven't signed up to COP (Virgin has only just signed up and they've been around a lot longer than Chase in the UK)
Your bank (whether it's Natwest/Virgin/Barclays etc etc etc) would normally flag an out of the ordinary transaction for review (well you'd hope they would!) So having your payment flagged for review is a good thing - it shows Natwest are on the ball, and are just making sure it's you doing the transfer.
When I transferred £10k from my Virgin account, that got flagged for review as well. I'm not complaining, as they were just checking I was me, and not someone else.

At the risk of legitimising this thread, anyone who suspects that there is a cloned version of an online banking app should not install it, enter a lot of personal information to open an account, then send a large faster payment to the account it tells you is yours, and only then decide that it is too risky to proceed. If you are upset that your bank has put a security hold on a payment, it is not reasonable to conclude that it is the fault of the recipient bank which must be a scam, that the dozens of people have claimed to be successfully using said bank for months are not telling the truth, and that MoneySavingExpert itself has been heavily promoting a scam bank.If you are seeing extra apps in your app store that other people do not see, then that would point first and foremost to your own device having been compromised.3
