So fed up with British Gas. Advice please?

Despite being vacant they will still chase for a debt if they believe it was accrued prior to the current occupier leaving.
Since a family member owns the property can they get in and take a reading which will get the bill correct? Then they will know what they do owe.
It could just be a very simple issue in that they estimated the final closing bill and since they did not know it was vacant, they may have over estimated. If the account is no closed, getting the final reading amended to that per the meter will resolve it.
As far as any debt goes, the property owner is still liable unless they have a tenancy agreement in place where a tenant pays.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

I've just called the number on the appointment confirmation letter to find a recorded message saying that due to high demand in more important areas they are not in a position to arrange safety & maintenance inspections so I think we can safely assume they're not going to show.
I wouldn't mind so much but this is the 3rd no show in a month and we're paying £17 a month for the privilege of yearly inspections. They didn't inspect last year either because they kept letting us down. I bet they'll have a get out clause if something goes wrong with our equipment because we haven't kept the inspections up to date
The phone rang this afternoon, it rang just twice and was from a witheld number so I couldn't call back. I bet it was British Gas making a half hearted attempt at contacting me.
Does anyone have a contact number so I can call and give them a piece of my mind? I've been trying 0845 6 060 231 which is the homecare number.
I had two of these useless contracts on two properties. Like you, sat in all day and they dont show up. Rang customer services and got attitude.
Not surprised, par for the course. Check you T&C's as if they have failed to turn up on three occasions I would suggest you would be able to claim for your whole years fees as they have failed to fulfill the contract.
Certainly for last year.
How do I know? I successfully sued them for a whole years fees, as like you they had failed to fulfill the contract and had not done a safety inspection within the year.
You would need to issue papers in the county court for a fee of £30 which you add to the bill as they will not act until pushed in my experience.
First step is to start writing letters setting out your case and requesting a full refund of last years fees. Keep copious notes, dates, times of anyone you speak to from BG.
IMO best to terminate the contract and save the £17/month in savings account. Find a reliable, honest local CORGI plumber to carry out your yearly service.0
