So fed up with British Gas. Advice please?

Options
I've just had a no show from British Gas. It was for my yearly safety and maintenance inspection, and should be between 12pm & 6pm today. I've just called the number on the appointment confirmation letter to find a recorded message saying that due to high demand in more important areas they are not in a position to arrange safety & maintenance inspections so I think we can safely assume they're not going to show.

I wouldn't mind so much but this is the 3rd no show in a month and we're paying £17 a month for the privilege of yearly inspections. They didn't inspect last year either because they kept letting us down. I bet they'll have a get out clause if something goes wrong with our equipment because we haven't kept the inspections up to date

The phone rang this afternoon, it rang just twice and was from a witheld number so I couldn't call back. I bet it was British Gas making a half hearted attempt at contacting me.

Does anyone have a contact number so I can call and give them a piece of my mind? I've been trying 0845 6 060 231 which is the homecare number.

Do you get £20 for this? Is it in the T&C's for the plan or is it a licence condition? Just wondering because Ofgem's GSOS relates to the provision of supply, not equipment maintenance like this so it would be worth knowing where that is stated as others seem to be getting this problem.

There's a few of us still here - start a thread with some details (as this one was about servicing and may not get all the attention).

I'm sure we'll all do what we can, even if we can't get hold of yoour account itself.
  • I only got £10 for a "no-show" from BG a few eeeks ago, it seems the service from them gets worse and worse.

There is clearly a few people on here who work for utilities inc BGas & PGen. So, just post what you need help for. In most cases anyone who works for a utility can help as most processes are industry defined and Suppliers build internal processes to manage them.

I think staff would need to be careful in accepting account specific detail anyway due to DPA.

    Terry,
There was a BG employee on here quite while ago who had obtained permission from his 'masters' in BG to take up specific issues; and received the 'official' blessing from MSE - a moderator posted that they had checked that he was genuine.

He was contactable by PM/email and solved some issues. Sadly it was a short lived experiment as I think he got overwhelmed and his 'masters' withdrew their approval - he posted to that effect.

Pity because while it was in place it worked well and would have improved the image of BG on this site; I actually spoke to him on the phone and he gave me some useful info.

He is probably lurking using another name.

BG are currently sending threats of legal action and disconnection to a vacant property that belongs to a family member - I told them over the phone that it's vacant, but the latest is they want to cut the power off at the end of December. (Note: the £90 bill they are chasing is estimated, and does not exist in reality)

Anyone got any suggestions as to how to get them to call the dogs off? While it's not me that will become responsible for the bills to that property, I do have an interest in helping the owner out.
