Nationwide verified by Visa problems

Hi
Have had major problems with Nationwide credit card "Verified by Visa" registration. Each time tried to register it said my DOB was wrong and go into a branch, so went in today, all my details are correct but they said ring card help line to check.
So ring card line, have to get OH to do it as he's the primary card holder (and this is where the problem lies), then I get to speak to the operator, and it turns out I have to use his DOB and passwords to get the V by V. I mean how secure is that? Now I have to get his password so I can use our joint credit card on line, not what I would call very secure really, added to the fact that I'll have to remember another password which isn't inituitive to me!
Asked the person I spoke to if they could flag this to the powers that be, but I bet nothing will come of it!

Very interesting, I bet they didn't think of that when they set up "Verified by..."Please continue to hold the line. Your call is very important to us and will be answered by next available robot...0

Their system seems to be totally flawed.
I registered my NW credit card OK. Then went to register my NW debit card. No. It told me my details were incorrect. They weren't. After several tries, and getting 'locked out' because I'd done so, I rang the Help(less) Line. After a while, they told me my date of birth was wrong. I pointed out that not only was it correct, it was the same as was already registered for my credit card.
Eventually, they gave up and told me to ring again after they'd talked to Visa. I couldn't be bothered, so I'm currently 'locked out' again.
To be honest, for a 'security system', their software is garbage. I don't know if it's NW's or Visa's site that processes the applications but it, and the prompts for registering an extra card etc, could have been designed better by a three-year-old.0 -
Ye its crap, the whole banking system is set up for the people who run accounts not the ones who share it with them. Once your not the main earner or you dont have credit because your husband deals with it your out of the loop. Its a pest!0

Well I had a response from NW, not that it made any sense. All they said was I could add the CC via my personal account manager, and sorry that customer services gave me the wrong information. Well I can't register it via my account manager because it's already registered by my OH, so the response is totally wrong. Anyway had a further search around the V by V site and found this gem in their FAQs.
Can an additional cardholder on a credit card account register for the Verified by Visa (VbV) service?
The main cardholder is the only person who can register for the service. If they wish, they may allow additional cardholders to use their registration details to enable them to shop online more securely. The main cardholder is still liable for all transactions on the account.
So they are actively encouraging you to share details with each other.... I have told them I don't think it's acceptable. The only reason we got the card is for use abroad, but really don't want the hassle of getting yet another card, so guess we'll have to stick with their silly system.0 -
Hello,
anyone had problems with recovering the password from Nationwide verified by Visa?
I tried to recover it via website and was informed that I tried to do this too many times and I have to call phone number on the back of my card. It showed after my first attempt and now showing every time I try.
I called them and was transferred between different departments which had no idea about verified visa. After 20 minutes I gave up. Every time I call there, they tell me they will transfer me to the right department and there seems to be no right department. No one has an idea what to do when website is not recovering/unlocking the card.
Credit Card helpline told me they don't have an access to internet services and said I should call Customer Service for Flex Account and then talk to Internet Services. When I told Internet Services it's about CC they said it's not them and transferred me back. In total 1hr on the phone.
Any one had similar problem and some luck with solving it?
I used verified by visa with Lloyds card before and never had any problems.0 -
I am having the same problem.
Forgot Password Process blocked
Too Many unsuccessful attempts.
The only advice I could get out of nationwide is to contact visa - as the process is theirs. Yet Visa have no contact numbers - and the e-mail links do not relate to problems with this process.
Please Help!!0 -
I regularly forget the password to the stupid thing....and simply re-set it.0

I think I may have a way around this problem, just replace the card with new one. It should have different number and won't be registered with VBV. Not sure if you can ignore registration when buying online. I know I could ignore it with Lloyds card.
Maybe it's not the best solution but it's definitely easier and more efficient than spending hours on phone.
Donnie, the problem is I'm not able to reset it online.0 -
Have finally got it solved. The key is to get directed through to the internet banking section and get lucky that the person at the other end knows what to do.
There seems to be a lack of knowledge in Nationwide about the problem and how to solve it - but is is something they CAN do. They can unlock the password. I asked the person to relay this to mangers and make sure others are awars of this issues and that it si being raised on internet sites.
My account is now working again.0
