More than 2.5 million people to be moved onto universal credit from today, leaving 900,000 worse off

More than 2.5 million people on legacy benefits will start to be moved over to universal credit from today in an automatic process that was previously halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Government's own figures show that the move could leave 900,000 people worse off – though many others will see their circumstances improved. Here's all you need to know.

I thought the 900,000 would have transitional protection when migrated, so no one would be worse off?

There is transitional protection in place but this doesn't mean everyone on tax credits will qualify for UC. It will depend on their circumstances.

They will at the point of transfer but as the transitional protections reduces they will become worse off over time than had the legacy benefits continued.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Wonder if I missed any transitory process considering my wtc's were closed in error.
I feel UC Ap has driven me into considerable overdraft territory.

Lots of people will miss out on the transitional protection as it doesn't work in some circumstances.

If any of those 900,000 have over 16k in savings and/or a second property they own my sympathy is severely limited, actually non-existent
Those with savings of over £16k will be fine for a year.  Why should people saving for a house be punished?
