What do/did you love about your new build?

Now I know new builds aren't everyone's cup of tea but for those who do love them, what do you love about yours?

I'm due to complete in July and I honestly can't wait. I haven't lived in a new build since I was a kid in the 90s.

The house I'm currently renting is so old with so much wrong. The windows are shot so the house always feels cold. The boiler is nearly as old as me. Poorly plained doors, having to manually heat the water every day, the list goes on and on.

I can't wait to have new everything and to be able to keep on top of things that I own. So tell me, what bits do you love?

I love our garden most. It was a lot of work but we turned it from a place full of rubble into somewhere it is lovely to sit and relax.

Sorry, but you will still have a list in a new-build.  You will be dissapointed if you are expecting everything perfect.

Main things I like are that the house has tons of storage space, high ceilings, large windows in most rooms and very energy efficient including solar panels.
Pretty much the opposite of the main issues with my previous Victorian era house.

Perfect is how you perceive something.

Will it be flawless? Most likely not. Will it have the same problems that I've listed about my current property? Definitely not.

Feel free to contribute to the question in the OP.

We love the layout of our new build, the really cheap running costs, the warmth in winter, the walled private garden and the easy upkeep.

Yes we had a snagging list to begin with but the majority of the jobs were sorted out quickly and efficiently.

Compared to the previous houses we have lived in this one is by far the easiest to live with.

Cheap running costs - At least compared to most older houses we have been in
We don't hear our directly attached neighbors ever through the walls - The 60's house we are buying, we can hear the neighbors TV through the wall!
Virtually nothing needs doing - The electrics are brand new, the heating system is brand new, the walls just need painting.

    The downsides are:

    Small garden
Narrow roads and lack of parking
Houses 'crammed' in. We are overlooked by about 5 other houses despite being a semi

We are currently buying a 60's built house and we really underestimated the cost of getting it to how we want it

We like the bedroom sizes that are proportionally perfect for 'our' needs. We don't watch TV in bed so only have a bed in our bedroom.
It was the chain free nature of the property (no waiting on a seller to sort out their onward purchase).
That neatly all issues are someone else's problem (if only they'd fix them...) and that the house is a neutral plain colour is great (easier to customise).
The garden is new and will take a while to establish but again we build it to our liking rather than amend an existing garden that you gave to justify digging up established  healthy plants and binning because they are not to your taste.
A drawback is that because everything is new, it is harder to justify ripping out a new worktop because you don't like it (we bought a completed new build but weren't original buyers). Although, that they'd trashed the hall carpet made it much easier to remove and put in the wooden floor we planned to have.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.

I love the beautifully finished kitchen and bathroom and clean, crisp paint/plasterwork and carpets in the living areas.

I love the fact I have a driveway

I love having a lovely family living next door who I cannot hear a peep out of due to how well the houses have been built

I love (surprisingly) the temperature of the rooms - I was worried it would be far too hot having read so online but it maintains a nice ambient temperature and even on warm days it never gets THAT stifling

I love the fact my professionally done (3rd party I hired myself) snagging list was only minor issues and the developer took the list and fixed them all without any hassle or pushback

I love the location and being able to go on long rural walks in an AONB on my lunch break when working from home, compared to living in a tiny flat in East London before selling up and buying this place during the pandemic

in short… I absolutely love it here, and I was one of those people who swore they would never buy a new build due to all the horror stories you hear (but got tired of being constantly outbid on secondary market houses)

We have a surprisingly large garden for a new build (I think one of the largest on our development). Our kitchen is huge (in our rented houses we only ever had tiny kitchens - I feel like the new one could fit our last three rental kitchens inside it!). The flow of the rooms is great, we have a nice wide hallway and lots of light! Starting with a relatively blank slate was what we wanted - we haven't started painting yet, but we transformed the garden from compacted rubble/soil into a really beautiful outdoor space - a bit of turf, some gravel, some raised beds and a herb garden.
