I've asked them to go through their insurance if they believe my car has caused them damage, we all have insurance for a reason.0

With a excess for a claim then increased premium the following year all because someone parked too close.......maybe be a bit more careful when you park your carman.united332 said:I've asked them to go through their insurance if they believe my car has caused them damage, we all have insurance for a reason.0 -
the other car driver claimed that my kid opened the door in a rash way and there is now a scratch on his door he is claiming caused by my kid,
If the other driver did not see ot happen how does he know it was a child and he opened the door in a rash way?0 -
Is it really that common though.man.united332 said:thanks all for your replies, while I will happily pay for the scratch if i know for sure it has caused by my kid, i know its a common scam and people will use this opportunity to make some extra bucks , they park so close to your car and wait for the right moment to create a scene and in case of kids its really easy for them to put pressure on you, but I am not going to budge and they wont take a penny out of me and can take it to insurance if they like.
while we are at it, I am still waiting for a call from numerous good people who has left marks on my door in various car parks and on my bumper and just ran away.0 -
Its not "a common scam". Thats deluded nonsense you've made up to avoid taking responsibility. From experience parents playing dumb when their child damages others property is very common.man.united332 said:i know its a common scam and people will use this opportunity to make some extra bucks , they park so close to your car and wait for the right moment to create a scene and in case of kids its really easy for them to put pressure on you, but I am not going to budge and they wont take a penny out of me and can take it to insurance if they like.

I had couple of instances where people try to blame me for their scratches, and my response is always simple, call your insurance and report it to police.
whether I am at fault or not, by book I am not allowed to settle it anyway without involving insurance.0 -
There is not normally an excess on a third party claim.grandadgolfer said:

If your 6 year old child opened the car door and there was a scratch that lines up with the edge of the door, then it is highly likely that your 6 year old did indeed open the door into the other car.
The insurance can sort it.
Surely with 6 year olds, you should have a child lock on the rear doors of the car?!?! I have 6 year old twins and have the rear child locks switched on because I don't trust one of them not to try and open the door when the car is moving, and secondly I don't trust them not to open the doors in car parks and cause damage to someone else's car!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)6 -

whether I am at fault or not, by book I am not allowed to settle it anyway without involving insurance.Odd, in decades of driving I've never been accused of scratching a car parked next to mine. You can settle claims without involving your insurer but they should be informed if you do so. They should also be informed of claims against you regardless of the outcome.3 -
That was me but if anyone challenges me I'd just deny it and make excuses. I am not going to budge and you wont take a penny out of me and can take it to insurance if you like.man.united332 said:while we are at it, I am still waiting for a call from numerous good people who has left marks on my door in various car parks and on my bumper and just ran away.
