The Ti-VCT has a rubber cambelt and variable cam timing, making it completely different to the larger capacity petrol engines; those are chain driven and Mazda derived.

Best thing to do is look on Ebay for a second hand handbook, although be careful to look for the appropriate Mk2 or Mk2 1/2 version.

    Well that's good news then.
Don't particularly like chains as whenever you mention anything getting changed, mechanics seem to just tell you nobody changes chains, they'll be fine.

I can't imagine chains are just super-duper indestructible. They surely also wear over time.

Would you change the water pump at the same time as the cambelt or is it not necessary on this engine?
Chains can stretch, granted, but generally last a lot longer than belts.  Key thing is to ensure that oil changes have been done, apparently, as that keeps the chain happy.  A timing chain ought to last the life of the engine, as has been suggested, and replacement isn't impossible but there generally aren't service schedules.  A garage probably wouldn't want to change one as a preventative measure, as has been noted; it's pointless.  I'd rather have a chain than a belt, with exceptions.

Water pump?  No idea.  It depends if the pump is driven by the belt and/or how much stripping down is required to get to it.

might be some info here, also service schedules etc  https://www-etisorigin.app.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

Hmm, both FireFox and Chrome are triggering warnings about that link & don't open it.
The certificate for www-etisorigin.app.ford.com expired on 26/09/2021.
So it has a genuine ford.com certificate(probably), but Ford haven't renewed it. It's a ford.com domain, not a dodgy redirect, so it looks kosher, but there's a slight risk that someone has managed to subvert a genuine Ford address.

Camchains rattle when they stretch and give plenty of warning. ...rubber belts can last between 20k to 100k depending on the model of vehicle, 100k on my Vauxhall van. Regular 6k oil changes on any vehicle worth doing for sake of engine life, some of the service intervals given for vehicles are for the sake of sales not vehicle maintenance.
