Or rather to be even more exact, precise even .... an 07 plated 2007 1.6 petrol Titanium Focus.

Basically car has been bought however the cars manual looks like it's been left in a bowl of water then dipped in glue. Can just about separate some pages but it's a PITA for sure.

Filters are going to be due so yeah basically -

* Engine oil spec - e.g. I don't just mean 5w30. For example my cars manual tells me the oil needs to meet Ford Spec WSS-M2C913-B (which I believe has since been superseded) - no this Focus isn't mine.
* Engine oil capcity
* Coolant spec (e.g. mine says needs to be WSS-M97B44-D for my diesel Mondeo).
* Spark plug info

Then on to capacities & the like -

* engine oil capacity
* coolant capacity
* tyre pressure spec (prefer to do it to the book rather than an it'll do).

Also the intervals - how often these things are due to be changed. There's scattered history with the car. Not a lot of point in changing something that doesn't need to be changed.

And while I'm asking -

timing belt/chain?

What's the interval on these? I saw no note in the receipts of it being done so I'd say it's best to get it done anyway but just for curiosity purposes....?

And the water pump - get done at the same time or no? I ask because on my Astra G to do the water pump you needed to remove the cambelt so it was best to do together.
On the wife's Astra H, the mechanic said you don't need to do them together after we got him to do it. Whether that's correct or not I don't know.
So just wondering whether to get both done or not or what?

From experience of other cars, when you start searching online you get all manner of replies from correct to wildly wrong. When I couldn't find the book to my wifes car and I was searching engine oil capacity, if I'd gone off the forums then depending on who's answer I took I would've been anything from 0.5ltr under to 1ltr over.

So just wondered if there's some kind of database with this info or anyone knows how you can easily get it?

Before Haynes is mentioned - it's an option and for the most part I've had no trouble with them in the past but I have a Haynes for my Mondeo and I forget what the torque setting is for now. Think it's the sump plug. Haynes says something like getting on 30Nm whereas it actually specifies on the oil filter housing to be something like 10Nm. I wont have those numbers exactly right as I'm not going out to start crawling & jacking to check but I don't think I'm far off - point is the car specifies the figure but Haynes says otherwise.

And besides, to buy a Haynes - have to wait on it arriving etc. Just wondered if there was info accessible now?

    Hopefully that link just provided will do the job.

    If not, I will try to scan in specific pages from my Focus 2007 1.6 petrol handbook.

    Can you buy a handbook from an online auction site?  Probably the easiest:

    The last Haynes manual I bought I got the online version too for a few pounds extra which was immediately available online after payment. It has extra photos too so it seems worth it.

    Hmm, both FireFox and Chrome are triggering warnings about that link & don't open it.

    Anyway, thanks for the responses. I didn't realise there were as many 1.6 versions as what there is. Seems that this one is a Ti-whateveritis - the 115bhp version.

    How different that is from the other 1.6 petrol MK2s I don't actually know. As in whether it means different part numbers for certain things, capacities etc.

    Looking how to do the pollen filter on these & whoever designed that, well I'll keep it friendly for a public forum & just say they want banning from the motor industry for life. I don't imagine it's the worst design as I saw a terrible one on a Jag at the weekend but it's pretty bad all the same. Just keep the flippin thing simple.
    Astra - glovebox out, flap undone, pull out, push in, refit glovebox & done.
    MK3 Mondeo - scuttle panel off, pull filter out, refit filter, refit scuttle panel, done.

    What's so bad about keeping things simple? Honestly!

    (1) It's an HTTPS link but the certificate for the site has expired. I guess @flash67 was more willing to ignore the warning. (Or was using a browser that is less secure) :)

    (2) Keeping things simple means less scope for additional (paid-for) service work in the franchised dealer network. ;)

    2 - Yeah I kinda got that. Still didn't stop me from feeling like I wanted to beat the guy round the head with the dirty pollen filter though.

    I was the one that answered your original question.

    What's your point?

    What's that got to do with your post yesterday?

    I'll assume you're one of these Volkswagen/BMW/Audi fanboys based off of it. Perhaps Ford. Who knows you may surprise me and be a French lover.
    Who really cares though. They're all just metal boxes plonked on top of 4 wheels to me. If it does the job I want it to do then it does the job regardless of what badge is front & rear.

    A Vauxhall actually turned out to be the least problematic car I've ever owned & I kept it for 11-12 years. Hey ho.

    Taking the wheel off a Megane to change the headlight bulb......

    Reminds me of my brother owning a Mini where everything seems to require the bumper coming off lol.

    I actually quite like Mini's. I'd possibly own one, though not sure I'd relish working on one.

    The Ti-VCT has a rubber cambelt and variable cam timing, making it completely different to the larger capacity petrol engines; those are chain driven and Mazda derived.

    Best thing to do is look on Ebay for a second hand handbook, although be careful to look for the appropriate Mk2 or Mk2 1/2 version.

    Well that's good news then.
    Don't particularly like chains as whenever you mention anything getting changed, mechanics seem to just tell you nobody changes chains, they'll be fine.

    I can't imagine chains are just super-duper indestructible. They surely also wear over time.

    Would you change the water pump at the same time as the cambelt or is it not necessary on this engine?
