The earth's cost of cheap flights

Less than £5And EasyJet, at least, offer a clear 'carbon offset' optional extra, which usually works out at a reasonable amount - €2ish. Needless to say with flights that only cost €20 in the first place I add the €2 on. Makes up for the money I save by not buying travel insurance or hold luggage or airport checkin0

Ah the "New Religion" where all heretics are harangued and belittled.
Dpn't believe everything they are saying about global warming. Hope you have read 1984 by George Orwell?0 -

As I student I try to be careful with what I spend and on what. However, I am completely against ridiculously cheap flights. I recently found a flight to Sardinia for £10! How are we meant to encourage people of the UK to lessen climate change, when we can fly to places in the UK and elsewhere for less than travelling a shorter distance by train?
We should be prepared to spend a lot more on using a mode of transport that uses a lot of fuel whose remnants are filling up are atmosphere and contributing to global catastorphy.
I am grateful of the advice of Martin Lewis, but we must act with a greener conscience when it comes to using a very non-green method of travel.

Absolute TOSH !! Global warming my a*se !! It's called Evolution !

Tree Huggers get up my nose, once the USA do something then we should do something, until then, it is a waste of time and money being green.
They are still buying/driving cars that do around 10mpg.
This is all about getting money from the gullible, and putting nothing back.0 -

Yes, but I don't recall the bit where Winston Smith carbon-offsets the emissions from the furnace destroying all the historical artefacts.0 -
There is no option in your poll for 'never fly to europe' so I cant take part.
Does that make me 'ultra green'?0 -
Air Travel is less than 3% of the carbon emissions of the UK. Even if the UK stopped producing any carbon from all sources tommorow it wouldn't make a shread of difference. China and India would replace the missing UK carbon output within 2 years.0

Have chosen domestic flights over the train a few times as there is a massive difference in cost (I never seem to able to get the cheap train tickets!) I'm afraid like many, I make decisions based upon budget.
Also, you are guaranteed a seat on a plane - unlike Transpennine and Virgin!! Have spent too many miserable journeys squished upright against a smelly bloke!:D0 -
Less than £5This targeting of one specific issue is ridiculous, and ignores the fact that it's much more than aviation that causes climate change. I personally have relatives in the States and like to broaden my horizons so I fly transatlantic once a year and within Europe 2-3 times. However I don't drive a car, use as little electricity & gas as I can, etc (mainly because it saves me money, helping the environment is secondary). Does this make me worse than someone who doesn't fly but drives 50k+ miles per year??0

If train tickets were cheaper, that might be a start!! if i can fly somewhere within the UK cheaper than getting a train, then its a no brainer. The rail companies have themselves to blame!!If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0
