It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Have you tried cooking some brisket or beef joint in a pressure cooker on a gas hob?
It can be cheaper than an oven, and faster than a slow cooker. I can't comment on whether it would be cheaper or more expensive than a slow cooker however. The meat is still quite moist and flavorful though - just make sure to put enough liquid inside!
No gas rings unfortunately - electric oven and electric induction hob.  I believe that, in the past,  most of the joints/brisket that we have had, have been done in the small slow cooker and deliver taste and texture that the main oven cannot match.  We do cook some stuff in the electric pressure cooker as well.  Sadly briskets and joints are becoming increasingly rare for us because they seem to suffer from price creepage - even spread over 2 days there are much cheaper things we eat.  I agree on the taste being way better but leave it up to others to delve into the economics of cooking items by alternative methods/appliances and make up their own minds.

    I like your thinking!! 😎
So do I but as I can’t go on holiday right now, I’m staying in bed longer. Uses no energy at all & costs nothing😉

Thermostat now set to 25 degC from 30 degC. Heating only on for 23 hours from 24 hours.
WOW you must have been cooking at 30 deg.  - even 25 is hot.  Keep turning that down to about 17.

    Also those hours down 2/3.
Got a feeling that it was a wind up post
Although I do know someone who has their heating on 24 between 6am and 10pm 365 days a year, else they feel "chilly".

I realized a couple of days ago that the frozen veg I use could be taken out of the freezer the night before and defrosted. I should now use less electric cooking it as the pan will get up to cooking temperature more quickly.

Same with bread for toast!   Let it defrost, by getting it out in advance, rather than using the * feature on your toaster.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Been using the airfryer more baked potatoes I microwave for a couple of mins  then a smear of oil and finish them off in the airfryer , chicken and fish also come out well from the airfryer .

Also being a retired engineer I have set up a recycling system for spent washing water from the washing machine and water from upstairs shower and use this grey water for the downstairs loo ( via a tank and a small pump driven by solar / ups ) it’s been my hobby for past year and has cut down the water bill drastically!
Upstairs toilet is still fed by potable / mains water etc ( wife said no way is that having grey water ) and as others have mentioned using a tablet to watch tv more and the use of led lights

Replaced our 26 year old American fridge/freezer 10 months ago with a new one. Rolling annual usage of electricity has dropped by 646kWh without any other significant change in consumption. Never expected the fridge to pay for itself in savings from improved efficiency, but with the price of electricity, that is around £340 £180 in savings per annum if I were on an SVR tariff. Might pay for itself eventually, but it's nice to see electricity usage drop anyway.

Edit: Correcting error in my initial calculation!
