I ve not long had my small air fryer and I m amazed how much better the chips are than either oven chips or deep fat fryer. Takes 15 mins only using hardly any oil. I ve not tried cooking any thing else yet with it but will try what you suggest.Astria said:peter_the_piper said:
Why not try baking them in the air fryer, we do and they taste/look much better than microwave and cheaper than turning on the oven. Wipe skins with oil, delish.Froglet said:
Baked potatoes I pierce with a long implement such as a knitting needle right through from one side to the other in four places, then cook for up to 5 minutes in the microwave, depending on size, before baking in the oven. This cuts the time down by at least half.I do pretty much everything in the air fryer since I bought it, chips, fish, burgers, potatoes, even left over takeaway.Have a gas oven but not sure if it would actually be cheaper to use that or the air fryer, but the latter is definitely quicker. Maybe I should do a comparison, hmmm...0 -

Maybe I should do a comparison, hmmm...A cost comparison would certainly be helpful, lots of articles on how tasty or how quick but nothing on cost.Having looked at energy consumption combined with cooking times they don't look that great or is it only cheaper if comparing it to a full size oven.0 -
I try to make my clothes last a little longer before washing. More of my washes have been reduced to 30c. I don't iron. I just hang clothing up promptly. I hardly ever use the tumble dyer now.
I turn oven rings/ oven at least five minutes before serving food. (That's if it will hold its temperature) I cook with lids on. Kettles are not over-filled.
In winter, I draw the curtains just before it gets dark.
I will wear a woolly hat indoors in winter.
I'm looking into a slow cooker, as that seems one of the ways forward. Less oven dishes.

Slow cookers are not very economical unless you have economy 7pearl123 said:I try to make my clothes last a little longer before washing. More of my washes have been reduced to 30c. I don't iron. I just hang clothing up promptly. I hardly ever use the tumble dyer now.

Yes put the oven on for whatever time it takes - none of this slow cooker nonsense. I shall inform the cook to desist from this appauling waste of electricity. Many thanksSwipe said:

Should I get rid of the air fryer too?
You need to show some additional information before I (and others on this forum) follow your advice
Maybe the info below is plain wrong - I am happy to be corrected. (PS I don't have economy 7)

Slow cookers and pressure cookers all work well with solar.
Pressure cut down on the amount time taken to make food with gas or electricity.0 -
I like your thinking!! 😎TadleyBaggie said:Taking more holidays…How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -

It's almost certainly wrong. It would be true if:- The slow cooker is 160 watts
- The oven is 2.5 kilowatts
- The duty cycle on both, while in use, is identical.
