Vauxhall cosmetic repairs insurance

When I bought my car about 5 years ago, I bought cosmetic repairs insurance for scratches dents etc.

However,, whenever I made a claim the company come up with some (pathetic) excuse why they could do it and then eventually went under.

The guy who sold it to me said "you can claim everything blah blah"

I just wondered how I go about claiming for this.

I contacted Vauxhall ages ago and they didn't really answer.

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

If the company no longer exists, you won't be able to claim on the policy.

How long does the policy have left to run? You may be able to do a partial chargeback for any unused portion if you paid by card.

If the company "went under" who would you take action against?

    1) Did the damage to the vehicle meet the criteria for a successful claim on the policy as defined in the policy terms and conditions i.e. were the dents or scratches within the defined limits on size/length/ position, if they were and the insurer declined the claim then any complaint would be against the Insurer (If the insurer no longer exists it may be possible to raise a complaint via the Financial Service Compensation Scheme), if the scratch/dents didn't meet the Insurers criteria then there is no complaint against them.

    2)  If you are saying  the guy who sold you the policy misled you as to what damage was covered then you need to complain to the Dealer - not Vauxhall.
  • You likely missed the boat here. You were sold a policy that covered everything (did you get that in writing?) but when the claim was rejected, that was the point to complain, not 5 years later. You might squeeze in under the 6 years rule but you would have to complain to the dealer who sold it to you, whether that is owned by Vauxhall or independent would be important. Also it would be reasonable for them to question why you are unhappy now and didn't cancel the policy when you realised it was not suitable.

Remember too, you are not "claiming" anything, you are complaining you were miss-sold, a key difference because claiming implies you are owed something.

You need to contact the company that sold you the product that you are now stating they misrepresented however you will need to come up with better evidence of what they told you than the above as otherwise it will look like buyers remorse and fraudulantly being badged as miss-selling.

The fact a claim was declined in itself isn't proof that it was miss-selling
