Do you really need a land-line and broadband?

I found that a 50 GB mobile data package from EE @£16/month more than covered my internet data requirement so I use the 4G phone as a mobile data hot-spot when using my laptop at home and terminated my landline / broadband / mobile package (c. £50/month) saving me about £34/month or about £400/year. Trial this before you jump: turn off your router and then make sure you can achieve the desired data speed via the mobile from home before terminating your land line contract. Also make sure early termination penalties don't apply.

Phones are not really designed for use as long-term hotspots. They'll work and do the job but they're not really designed for this. If you have a lot of devices you'd do better with a router that can work with a mobile data connection.

Using a phone as a hotspot may well work where there is only one person in the household as 1) the phone needs to be in the house 2) hotspots are limited on the number of devices that can connect to them.
Using a proper 4G router with a dedicated SIM card would be the more robust way to do it. You get better aerials for the 4G signal and they can sustain higher throughputs for longer (and don't run out of battery).
So 4G instead of home broadband works for people, using a mobile hotspot for most doesn't.0
